Tottenham without five players for Chelsea clash, Belgian could return

|

Tottenham will be without five players for Saturday evening’s Premier League meeting with Chelsea – Kieran Trippier (groin), Davinson Sanchez (hamstring), Mousa Dembele (ankle), Danny Rose (groin) and Vincent Janssen (foot). Jan Vertonghen, who was previously suffering with a hamstring injury, could return.

Mauricio Pochettino hopes Trippier and Rose will return to training at the end of November, meaning the pair are unlikely to feature for Spurs until early December. The Tottenham boss believes Sanchez’s return date will be the end of the year, so supporters won’t see the centre-back until 2019.

Dembele’s ankle injury could see him sidelined for a couple of months while there’s no return date for Janssen. Vertonghen’s return is a big boost with Sanchez currently out of action, but it’s unknown if Pochettino deems the defender fit enough to start such a big game, however. Juan Foyth might be selected alongside Toby Alderweireld.

Serge Aurier is likely to replace Trippier at right-back, Ben Davies should continue at left-back in Rose’s stead and Victor Wanyama may start in place of Dembele. Tottenham will leapfrog Chelsea in the table if they pick up all three points, sealing their third consecutive win in the process, but the Blues are also in fine form themselves – unbeaten in the league this season.
