Tottenham without 22-year-old ahead of Chelsea clash, could be sidelined for days or weeks

|

Tottenham will be without Dele Alli for Thursday’s EFL Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea, after the 22-year-old picked up a hamstring injury in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Fulham.

Alli is the fifth player on Tottenham’s treatment table along with Harry Kane (ankle), Moussa Sissoko (groin), Lucas Moura (knee) and Victor Wanyama (knee) and could be out of action for a number of weeks depending on the severity of his injury.

Grade 1 is a mild muscle pull or strain that could take just days to recover from. A Grade 2 is a partial muscle tear which can see players out for a handful of weeks. A Grade 3 is a complete muscle tear which usually sidelines players for a number of months. Pochettino will be hoping it’s not serious but did admit to being “worried” at the time Alli was clutching his leg.

He’s expected to miss out against Chelsea on January 24 and could be absent for Tottenham’s FA Cup meeting with Crystal Palace three days later. The games are coming thick and fast with Pochettino having four games to prepare for in the next 12 days, but it’s unknown if Alli will miss them all.
