Manchester City will make it a five-way fight for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and us have all reportedly been watching the 18-year-old, but the Catalan publication reports that City have also entered the race for the centre-back.

Pep Guardiola is said to be concerned about the poor form of John Stones and is worried about Nicolas Otamendi returning from the World Cup needing an extended period of rest.

We are believed to be keen on de LigtĀ linking up with his former teammate Davinson Sanchez once again. The pair were centre-back partners as Ajax made it to the Europa League final last year.

The Dutch international has already been capped five times at senior level by the Netherlands and has 60 appearances for his club despite not even turning 19 yet.

Mauricio Pochettino is likely considering the defender as a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld who has been widely tipped to leave in the summer.

  • He seems solid enough but I doubt he’ll replace the hole Toby will leave.

Spurs need to do their best to convince key players to stay this season coming rather than cashing in and targeting potential as per. If we can build on this team and win something at the new stadium, hopefully it will put an end to the trophy-less drought.

Obviously new faces are needed for that and it will mean some players need to be sold for both funding and space. Hopefully it won’t lead to the loss of Toby though. My votes go to Lamela, Vorm and Sissoko. Bring Bale back with the cash which sorts out our homegrown quota, then happy days.
