Tottenham suffer another injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash, more bad news for Pochettino

|

Serge Aurier has reportedly picked up a hamstring injury on international duty and could be a doubt for Tottenham’s clash with Liverpool on Sunday. The 26-year-old came off after 30 minutes of Ivory Coast’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda.

Aurier’s injury news comes just a day after Eric Dier picked up a muscle problem and was sent back to Tottenham to recover. Mauricio Pochettino has favoured Kieran Trippier at right-back this season and could call upon Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks to play at the heart of the midfield.

Victor Wanyama is another option in the middle of the park, although his lack of playing time could make it a risk to start him on such a big occasion. Tottenham can’t afford any more slip-ups after suffering three defeats in their last four Premier League games.

With Aurier making only two league appearances in 2019, he was unlikely to play against Liverpool regardless. Dier can’t get a run of games together in recent months either, racking up only 102 minutes of top-flight football since early-December 2018.

Tottenham will be underdogs ahead of their trip to Liverpool, with the Reds boasting an unbeaten home record and having won three and drawn one of their last four overall.
