Tottenham should sign highly-rated centre-forward in January – opinion

|

Tottenham have been linked with Josh Maja, with the Sunderland centre-forward setting League One alight with 11 goals in 18 appearances this season. Maja is third in the scoring charts, one behind Ian Henderson (Rochdale) and two behind Tom Eaves (Gillingham). He could be the subject of bids from numerous clubs in January and Tottenham should put their hat in the ring.

The Northern Echo state that Maja would cost around £6m which could be a bargain given his fantastic form. Tottenham aren’t short of attacking options, but they could benefit from a centre-forward who could take the scoring burden off Harry Kane. Vincent Janssen has been sidelined with injury this season while Fernando Llorente has been short of playing time.

Maja can hold the ball up, has brilliant movement and has been hitting the target on a regular basis. The 19-year-old is also an aerial threat and has scored with his head this season, so he would provide another dimension to the Tottenham attack.

For £6m, Mauricio Pochettino could sign a centre-forward with real potential who could always be loaned back to Sunderland until next summer to continue his development.
