Tottenham should sign £71m Spaniard to replace Christian Eriksen – opinion

|

Tottenham were linked with Marco Asensio earlier in the week, with reports suggesting the Spanish international is being linked up as a replacement for Christian Eriksen. If the Danish international does leave the club in January or next summer, Asensio would provide some solace.

The 22-year-old joined Real Madrid from RCD Mallorca in 2015 and has gone on to make 114 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 39 goals. Asensio has made 23 appearances across the board this season, contributing eight goals, but his future at the Santiago Bernabéu could be in doubt.

Asensio has started only three Liga games since September 29 while starting only one of their last four Champions League outings. He may not be content with the lack of minutes under Santiago Solari and could be open to a move.

Tottenham would be deemed a step down for the forward, but Real aren’t having the best of seasons as Los Blancos sit fourth in the table, five points off leaders Barcelona. Asensio’s valuation is around £71m which could be too steep for Daniel Levy, but he would be a good option in Eriksen’s stead.
