Tottenham Reportedly Step Up Interest In Brazilian Centre Back

|

The club have made a proposal for Atalanta centre-back Rafael Toloi, according to Premium Sport journalist Andersinho Marques.

The Italian football reporter revealed on his Twitter account that we are interested in signing the 27-year-old.

Toloi has been at Atalanta for three years after signing from Sao Paulo in 2015. The Brazilian has made 98 appearances for the Serie A club, including 39 last season, helping his team to a seventh-place finish.

His side conceded 39 goals in 38 league games; the best of any team outside of the top four in Italy. In the 2015/16 and 2017/17 campaign, the Italian side conceded 47 and 41 respectively demonstrating the centre-half has played an important role in improving his team defensively.

However, the defender is not at the World Cup with Brazil and has not been capped at senior level. As a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld, Toloi wouldn’t be at the top of my list, but he may be seen as a squad player to provide cover for the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen.
