The club have made a proposal for Atalanta centre-back Rafael Toloi, according to Premium Sport journalist Andersinho Marques.

The Italian football reporter revealed on his Twitter account that we are interested in signing the 27-year-old.

Toloi has been at Atalanta for three years after signing from Sao Paulo in 2015. The Brazilian has made 98 appearances for the Serie A club, including 39 last season, helping his team to a seventh-place finish.

His side conceded 39 goals in 38 league games; the best of any team outside of the top four in Italy. In the 2015/16 and 2017/17 campaign, the Italian side conceded 47 and 41 respectively demonstrating the centre-half has played an important role in improving his team defensively.

However, the defender is not at the World Cup with Brazil and has not been capped at senior level. As a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld, Toloi wouldn’t be at the top of my list, but he may be seen as a squad player to provide cover for the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen.

  • If Toby goes I do hope we sign a CB that has decent experience at a good level.

Assuming Toby isn’t on our list, Verts is the only real CB we would have with that experience. Sanchez, Foyth and CCV are still very young with little experience.

I’m not including Dier as I feel he is poor at CB. He makes a lot of mistakes and doesn’t have the concentration ability to be a CB.

Don’t know anything about this Toloi lad.

  • Yet another red herring, daily links to Tom, Dick, and Harry and his dog but still no action at Spurs. Of course this summer is a world cup year but that does not only affect Spurs and their “we want to get our business done early” policy, it is not stopping others. Perhaps we don’t need any signings, perhaps our squad does not need strengthening, perhaps pigs might fly but they make very unlikely birds. We are heading for a last afternoon scramble yet again so that we can make more Sissoko or Jannson type over priced third rate signings, players that we are unlikely to shift without losing money, and who solve no squad depth shortcomings. Some Newcastle fans still haven’t stopped laughing over the Sissoko deal.

  • Frank…question! why do you keep harping on about the same ole same ole no matter the article, we all know how you feel, some of us probably feel the same, plus we all know that Levy’s/Spurs attitude will probably never change, the other thing is, in all honesty we have no idea whats going on behind the scenes.

I think! as I have always done, is wait and see, we might be quietly surprised. COYS
