Tottenham player ‘will be assessed’ ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers clash

Tottenham have confirmed that Dele Alli ‘will be assessed’ ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Spurs welcome the high-flying newly-promoted club to Wembley and could pick up their sixth consecutive win in the league if they come out on top on the day.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are currently second in the league with 45 points from 19 games, coming off the back of five wins on the bounce – Southampton (3-1), Leicester City (2-0), Burnley (1-0), Everton (6-2) and Bournemouth (5-0).

Games are coming thick and fast in December which means players are at risk of fatigue. As a result, Alli is being managed by Pochettino to avoid tiredness. The 22-year-old sat out of Spurs’ Boxing Day win over Bournemouth but could return in time to face Wolves.

As per Football.London, Mauricio Pochettino said in a pre-match press conference: “Dele yesterday was involved in the squad but after was out of the 18. But this morning he said to me, ‘Gaffer I’m going to be ready.’ I said, ‘Relax, you need to train this morning and then we’ll see tomorrow and assess you’.

He added: “But that is a very good signal, that all the players want to be involved. That increases the level, the competitive level in the squad and for sure helps to get good results.”

Alli has made 19 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating nine goals. He’s impressed in recent weeks, scoring against Arsenal in the EFL Cup quarter-finals and followed that up with a goal in the league thrashing of Everton.

Pochettino named a trio of Heung-min Son, Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura behind Harry Kane against Bournemouth on Wednesday, with Eriksen in Alli’s favoured position. Time will tell if he makes a change to the squad or sticks with the same starting eleven. Alli clearly wants to play.
