Tottenham Hotspur have been a shadow of the side they were last season.
The north Londoners have gone from the Champions League final to being seven points adrift of the top five and out of all cup competitions.
They could do with a lift this summer and one emerging transfer report is sure to have fans excited.
According to Italian journalist Alessandro Jacobone, Spurs are one of several top-flight teams chasing RB Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of next season.
Some of the other names in the mix include arch-rivals Arsenal, PSG, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Wolves.
La Repubblica, via Calciomercato, claim that the 19-year-old has a release clause of just €24m (£22m) which can be paid over three years, meaning Daniel Levy only has to cough up around £7m per season.
It’s something that the Spurs chairman should ultimately consider, even if his manager Jose Mourinho is awash with options in the central midfield role.
Szoboszlai’s national team boss, Marco Rossi, has tipped the teenager for big, big things. He said:
“He has the stigma of the champion, that’s for sure. First of all, he has a great personality despite his very young age. Then he has an excellent technique and a great game vision to which he combines remarkable physical means. Despite being 1.85m tall he is equipped with a very good speed. He is a complete player. I believe that in a couple of years, especially if his professional career is well thought out, he can become one of the best midfielders in Europe.”
The Salzburg sensation has provided seven goals and six assists from 30 appearances in all competitions, via FBref, meaning he averages 0.62 goal contributions per game from midfield.
It’ll be interesting to see how this one develops, particularly given the emerging situation surrounding the future of Tanguy Ndombele, but at just three £7m instalments, this deal could surely be low-risk with the potential of high-reward.
