£45m star is “someone Mourinho likes the look of” but Spurs face one major stumbling block

|

Tottenham Hotspur know they need reinforcements if they are to challenge again next season.

Their campaign has been rather indifferent since the appointment of Jose Mourinho in November. The north Londoners do still have a chance of qualifying for the Europa League as they sit two points behind Sheffield United, who are in seventh place.

One of the biggest problems, aside from their defensive woes, has been having a plan B to Harry Kane.

Would you like to see Arek Milik at Spurs next season?

Yes please!

No thanks!

The 26-year-old picked up an injury on New Year’s Day and was set to miss the remainder of the season before lockdown struck, and in his absence, Spurs crashed out of all cup competitions and sunk well adrift of the Champions League spots.

All because they failed to land a striker in January, but that is surely something they will rectify in the summer if Daniel Levy has the funds to do so.

In a recent Q&A, Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold suggested that Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik is “someone Mourinho likes” but there’s a massive problem, and for once, it’s aside from their finances.

He said:

“He appears to be someone Mourinho likes the look of but his agent has been making noises about the old Harry Kane problem and a lack of game time. It’s something that seems to dog Spurs more than other club, perhaps because they so rarely play with two up front and Kane is just so dominant.”

The Polish striker, who has been compared to his native compatriot Robert Lewandowski in the past, has enjoyed a decent season in Italy despite being faced with injury troubles.

Per Transfermarkt, Milik has bagged 13 goals from 30 appearances in all competitions, adding to his tally of 20 for last campaign.

However, Spurs’ chances of landing the 26-year-old appear slim as the player is worried about his prospects of actually getting game time considering Kane is the top dog in north London.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

And Mourinho very rarely opts for a 4-4-2 system, although we did see that against Arsenal on Sunday, so maybe that could change?

It’s thought that Napoli would want £45m for his services, is that worth it for someone who’s going to play second fiddle to the England talisman? Probably not. But if he’s going to partner him in the attack? Then, absolutely.
