Tottenham man suffers injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash, bad news for Pochettino

|

Eric Dier has picked up a muscular injury on international duty and could be a doubt for Tottenham ahead of their meeting with Liverpool on March 31, reports Sky Sports News. The 25-year-old picked up the injury for England against the Czech Republic on Friday. He was fouled by Tomas Soucek just 13 minutes into the Euro 2020 qualifier and limped off not long after. Ross Barkley replaced him.

After the game, Gareth Southgate said: “I think he will go back to his club. Hopefully not to serious, bit of a muscular injury but he won’t be right for our second game.” Dier has endured an injury-hit 2019, with the midfielder making only three Premier League appearances since the turn of the year. He’s had an appendectomy and struggled with illness, but now a muscle injury could keep him out of action in the coming week.

Dier has made 23 appearances in all competitions, featuring on a regular basis during the first-half of the season. He’ll be a blow for Mauricio Pochettino if he’s not passed fit in time to face Liverpool, as Tottenham aren’t in the best form and can’t afford to lose any key players. Defeat to the Reds next weekend would be Spurs’ fourth defeat in five games, putting their hopes of attaining a Champions League spot at risk.
