Tottenham man ruled out of Man City clash, Pochettino ‘doesn’t know’ if he’ll face Brighton

Tottenham confirmed on Thursday that Harry Winks is continuing his rehabilitation and would miss Saturday’s meeting with Manchester City. Mauricio Pochettino told Football.London that the central midfielder is still doubtful to face Brighton & Hove Albion on April 23.

When asked if Winks could return in time to face the Seagulls on Tuesday evening, Pochettino said: “We don’t know, we need to assess him (Friday). We will see.” The 23-year-old has struggled with a groin injury in recent weeks, making only one Premier League appearance since late-February.

Winks has been a key player under Pochettino, playing in 40 games in all competitions this season, but he might be absent for another important outing. The England international missed Wednesday’s Champions League triumph over the Sky Blues and doesn’t look likely to play in Saturday’s must-win encounter at the Etihad Stadium.

City need all three points to return to the summit in the league while Spurs need all three points to ensure they aren’t knocked out of the top-four by Chelsea. In Winks’ absence, Victor Wanyama should keep his place at the heart of the midfield, but there are doubts whether Moussa Sissoko and Eric Dier are fit enough to feature.
