Tottenham man ‘returns to training’ and is ‘available for selection’ ahead of Barca clash

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Erik Lamela has ‘returned to training’ and is ‘available for selection’ ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League meeting with Barcelona. Lamela had been suffering from a thigh injury which kept him out of action for three Premier League games, but the Argentine has successfully recovered and could be in the matchday squad.

Pochettino said: “He’s back and it’s always important that the players are fit to create a problem in my head about the starting XI.”

The 26-year-old has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating eight goals. Lamela is unlikely to start against Barcelona, but he’ll be a useful option from the bench. His eye for goal and ability to beat an opponent could be important to Spurs, but the likes of Heung-min Son, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane will provide an attacking threat.

Lamela was in and out of the side at the start of the campaign, making only four substitute appearances in the Premier League between early-August and mid-October. The Argentinean international’s time at Tottenham has been blighted by injury but his return is fantastic news for supporters.

He’s contributed two goals in three Champions League starts this season and could be called upon in a must-win encounter.
