According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham have made Eddie Howe a ‘leading contender’ to replace Mauricio Pochettino should the Argentine manager leave for Manchester United or Real Madrid. Pochettino will reportedly set United or Real back £40m and offers could soon come flooding in.
The 46-year-old would be hard to replace given how well his four-year stay at Tottenham has gone. Since joining from Southampton in 2014, Spurs has gone on to register top-four finishes in their last three seasons and currently finds themselves third in the Premier League table with 39 points from 17 games.
Pochettino’s men recently qualified for the Champions League knockouts and will face Borussia Dortmund in the last-16. They beat Arsenal 2-0 in the EFL Cup to book their place in the semi-finals and will be hoping this is the season where they claim silverware.
Howe would be an interesting replacement, however. The English coach has been in charge of Bournemouth for nearly seven years. He’s led the Cherries to 9th, 12th and currently 11th in the last three Premier League seasons, but it may be a big step for Howe to succeed Pochettino.
