According to Calciomercato, Tottenham are ‘very interested’ in Genoa defender Koray Gunter, with Mauricio Pochettino eyeing up a potential replacement for one of out-of-contract duo Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. Gunter only joined the Serie A club from Galatasaray over the summer, however, so a move in the January transfer window seems unlikely. Spurs might have to wait until next summer as a result.
The 24-year-old started his career with SV Hoxter and spent two years with Braxel before joining Borussia Dortmund. Gunter only made one appearance in all competitions for BVB before Gala rescued him, and it was at the Türk Telekom Stadium where he became more of a regular at centre-back. Four years later, he joined Genoa where he now finds his future in doubt due to increased interest in his services.
Tottenham, who also have competition from AC Milan for Gunter’s signature, are on the hunt for a centre-back as they fear losing Alderweireld and Vertonghen, both of whom don’t appear close to putting pen to paper on a contract extension. Spurs have reportedly sent scouts to watch Gunter and will continue monitoring him in the coming weeks. It’s unknown if they will lodge an official bid, however.
