Tottenham: It’s All To Play For.

|

With around three weeks to go until the Premier League kicks off again, at least one thing has been sorted; the fixtures. The other remaining ‘thing’ to be sorted, the Transfer Window, will hold our undivided attention for a while longer.

But with the release of the fixtures the upcoming season becomes serious. We have something concrete to consider and speculate on. We can examine the fixture list for all competing clubs and attempt to determine how the start of the season might progress and we can consider what would make for a successful season when it’s all over. It’s the time for all optimists, cynics, hopefuls, and dreamers, to show what they’ve got.

In this regard, nothing has changed for me since last season. I want to see eleven Spurs players on the park playing good football (however that is defined) as a team; a solid unit. I want to see Spurs finish in the top four with Champions League football on the horizon. I want to see a new and welcome Cup (any cup) added to our neglected trophy cabinet. And I want to be entertained. And I don’t think what I want is either unreasonable or unrealistic.

Looking at the list, the early games suggest we can be off to a very good start. A good start will give us something to build on and push us well into the season. We seem to have three winnable games before we meet United away. Three games to gain confidence and a belief when we face them. That game is followed by more winnable games. The United game could be crucial …. but not season-defining.

For those who believe in fairies, consider this. Our most successful season happened in 1960-61. This season is 2020-21. That season started with a home game against Everton (2-0). This season starts with a home game against Everton. I know, it’s freaky, isn’t it. (smile of amusement).

So, the questions are: What do we want? What is realistic? and …. Do you believe in fairies?

Geof – very good short point there regarding us having very good players – indeed my frustration is all about just adding the 2 finishing touches I feel are needed to compliment and complete what I feel is actually a very good squad of players – but you’re only as strong as your weak link so God Forbid anything happens to HK10 generally but especially already at the start of the season for example (with so many games potentially in such a short space of time) – let’s just hope we can finally get in at least 1 decent STR to back him up and then me and I’m sure quite a few other YIDS will rest a lot easier with that!

EJ …. Given the amount of games to play, the first ten weeks will be full of ups, downs, joy, despair, and hope. It’s the supporters lot.

  • El Jefe says:

Geof – hope it’s much more ups than downs and that we are still fighting in all 4 comp’s by the next international stage in October (of course FA Cup still a given at that point LOL)!

    Hi Folks
A lot of talk about repetition here lol. Much as I like all the Transfer stuff. I love knowing who we are getting in who’s leaving etc. But it does get annoying when we are linked with just about everyone who has ever kicked a ball, and the constant regurgitated stories.
I looked at our(probable) first 11 lately and TBH we could give anyone a run for their money.
Hence my no panic over a reserve stkr. A bit of money spent in the right place on the right people and we would be doing OK.
We all have our wish list (I suppose) of late I’ve tried to move away from naming actual players, rather I mention positions whichI think may need strengthening.
EJ keep doing yer stuff m8. I think you’ve put forward some good names and been spot on in positions needed early on.

Agreed match day thread maybe needed.

Niall………….a first eleven can always look good on paper, it’s what they do or don’t do on the pitch that really matters! 🙂

    • PompeyYid says:

Afternoon TQ, hope all is well, yes very true what you wrote, I feel they will do it on the pitch because of JM’s attitude, this sort of thing rubs off. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Looks like Villa have done a deal for Watkins so it could be King will be the only option left by the time DL has dusted off his cheque book! lol

    • PompeyYid says:

Yep, deal done, Brentford new ground and a load of dosh coming in, £28m + add ons I think. COYS

      • TQ2Spurs says:

I heard their new stadium cost £75m PY, sale of Watkins goes a long way towards paying for it!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Links to Zaniolo will stop as well now, poor guy suffered an ACL rupture playing for Italy.
