According to FC Inter News, Tottenham are interested in Ivan Perisic and may have to battle Leeds United and Bayern Munich to procure his signature this summer. Perisic has spent the season on loan at Bayern from Inter Milan and is in talks over making the move permanent. The two clubs are €5m-€10m (£4.5m-£9m) apart with their valuation of the 31-year-old, however.
Perisic is a brilliant winger, but he’s isn’t getting any younger which may put off Daniel Levy from making a move. He’s coming off the back of an impressive season in Germany, but how many more years does he have left at the top level? We aren’t blessed with much of a transfer kitty and need to sell existing players to generate funds, so we have to get value for money.
That being said, the Croatian international has made 33 appearances in all competitions for Bayern, scoring eight goals with 10 assists. As per WhoScored, Perisic has had a hand in seven goals from 11 Bundesliga starts, created 20 chances, whipped in 76 crosses with 18% finding a teammate, won 20/28 aerial duels, made 12/20 successful dribbles, had 40 shots with 30% hitting the target and made 16 tackles.
Perisic a brilliant player who would improve our squad, but it’s short-termism paying a sizeable transfer fee and wages for somebody in the eve of their career.
FC Inter News say Inter want €20m (£18.1m) but may accept €15m (£13.6m) given the current climate. Bayern are weighing up a €10m offer, however, so it remains to be seen if they’ll have any luck in negotiations.
As per Calciomercato, Perisic earned more than €4.5m-a-year/€86.5k-per-week (£4.1m-a-year/£79k-per-week) at Bayern and earns €4m-a-year/€77k-per-week (£3.63m-a-year/£70k-per-week) at Inter, so his wages wouldn’t break the bank for Tottenham.
The problem is the overall package. Perisic has two years remaining on his deal at the San Siro, so Spurs could be forced to pay a total of £25.26m for the 31-year-old until 2022.
Money is tight this summer, so Danny Rose, Serge Aurier, Juan Foyth, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Moussa Sissoko could be sold to generate funds. It remains to be seen who we end up offloading, however, and it’s unlikely that we’ll put any money towards signing Perisic.
