Alasdair Gold delivers update into Spurs’ pursuit of £30m-rated Mourinho target

|

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer activity is uncertain.

There have been plenty of reports linking them with some solid additions whilst the Evening Standard believe the north Londoners will be restricted to just free agents and swap deals.

One player who continues to be mooted with a switch to Spurs is Norwich City right-back, Max Aarons, who is reportedly available for £30m as per Sky Sports.

Would Max Aarons be an upgrade on Serge Aurier?

Yes!

No!

Football Insider believe the young Englishman is Jose Mourinho’s top target and before lockdown hit, had been making good progress on the prospects of clinching him.

Now Football.London reporter Alasdair Gold has weighed in with a fresh update on their pursuit. He believes the club may be waiting for the outcome of the Canaries’ season as they could land him for a cheaper fee.

He said:

“Max Aarons, I think they’ll certainly be an element of waiting to see if Norwich will go down that will make a huge difference, you’d imagine, to transfer fees. It just naturally will because Norwich will need more help, as it were financially. Not quite a desperate position but they will need what money they can get. You do imagine that then prices will naturally have to come down.”

The England U21 international would be a perfect signing this summer, but it remains to be seen whether the club can actually afford to purchase him. Norwich getting relegated would help matters substantially.

Aarons has played 27 times in his maiden Premier League season and has adapted to the step up in quality superbly. He’s averaged 1.8 clearances, 1.3 tackles and 1.3 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

Serge Aurier continues to divide opinion with his performances in north London and his antics off the pitch after breaking the government’s lockdown rules for the third time means an upgrade is needed at right-back.

If Spurs can do it, then Aarons should quite rightly be top of their priorities.
