According to ESPN, Tottenham are ‘frontrunners to sign’ Carlos Soler. The Valencia midfielder is ‘high on Pochettino’s wanted list’ and would set the Londoners back around £30m. Soler rose through the youth ranks to the first-team in 2017 and has gone on to make 91 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals.
The Spanish u21 international has been a regular in the midfield this season, making 28 appearances in La Liga, the Champions League and Copa Del Rey so it’s hard to see why Valencia would consider selling him. Soler has operated at right-midfield, central midfield and as a defensive-midfielder this season, so he’d provide versatility to the Tottenham squad.
Mauricio Pochettino does need a central midfielder after selling Mousa Dembele to Guangzhou R&F, but Tottenham might struggle to convince Valencia to let Soler leave. The 22-year-old may be content to stay at the Mestalla Stadium too. Time is running out for the Londoners to bolster their engine room and Spurs aren’t making much headway in locking down a transfer.
It’s been more than 12 months since Pochettino made a permanent signing. Could it be Soler?
