Tottenham Backed To Splash £26.4m On Spanish Defender

|

We are prepared to pay €30m (£26.4m) for Benfica left-back Alejandro Grimaldo, according to Record.

The Portuguese newspaper reports that we are looking to replace Danny Rose, and are ready to splash out on the 22-year-old.

Grimaldo only moved to Portugal from Barcelona B for €1.5m in 2016, but his value his quickly risen during his two and a half years in the first team at the Estadio da Luz.

The former Spanish Under-21 international played regularly on the left-hand side of defence last season for Benfica, making 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing five assists.

During the January transfer window, the full-back was also reportedly a target for us, although no bid was made for the defender.

It’s likely that any move for Grimaldo will have to wait until Rose’s future is resolved. The England international has been linked with Manchester United, although Everton are also said to be keen.
