Vital Spurs asked, in a poll suggested by someone whose name I didn’t make a note of (so apologies there!), if Spurs fans should stop referring themselves as Yids.
The topic has cropped up several times recently, if memory serves me right the club are keen to stamp the chanting out and I know as editor of this site I’ve had a few complaints. The complaints haven’t been nasty but have come from the more politically correct amongst us and have suggested the term being used is racist.
I can’t see it myself, maybe if the term was being used ‘against’ Spurs fans it would be a problem, but with so many Spurs fans joining in the Yid chant and loads on this site calling themselves Yids, like Big Yid and Baldy Yid, I fail to see the problem.
The poll results appear to agree with 77% saying we shouldn’t stop calling ourselves Yids and 23% saying we should.
I’d be VERY interested to hear from both sides of the argument in the forum or article comments, my only request is the minority aren’t abused or shouted down by the more vocal amongst us, it takes all opinions to make a debate! 😉
