This Spurs Man Doesn’t Turn Up In Big Games Apparently

|

I did a piece a while back about Christian Eriksen and the criticism he was taking following the start of Tottenham Hotspurs’ clash against Manchester United and I think last night’s Champions League opener with Inter Milan proves the point admirably.

With the Manchester United victory seeing criticism along the lines of the Danish international letting the game skip ‘him by’, and being accused of ‘missing in big game shocker’, Tuesday evening showed it couldn’t be further from the truth.

By the end of the United game that had been proven to be fair.

With plenty of anger, disappointment and frustration at our eventual 2-1 late loss at the San Siro, Eriksen’s own performance earned him a score of 8.41 from statistics website WhoScored.

No other player received a rating of 8 or above and you can see why with the 26-year-old getting all three efforts on target, with his goal, and four key passes. 73 touches saw him have a pass accuracy rating of 88.2%. He also piped up with two tackles, two interceptions and a clearance to keep us ticking over before a set piece was our undoing.

Eriksen can look great, or anonymous, but he’s that type of player. Forgive the bad ones and relish the good.
