This Man Withdraws From International Duty But Should Feature For Spurs

|

On Monday afternoon it was confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli had withdrawn from international duty with England and had returned to the club for treatment after picking up a muscle strain in the 2-1 defeat to Spain.

The 22-year-old was expected to feature later this evening in the game against Switzerland but Sky Sports quote England gaffer Gareth Southgate as confirming that he has now left the group, but although tonight’s game comes too quickly he feels confident that Alli will feature for Mauricio Pochettino this weekend as we face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.

Hopefully Southgate will give Harry Kane a break and let him skip this match so he can recharge a little, but fair’s fair here, at least rather than keeping him around the group for treatment he’s been sent back to us so he can be properly assessed and if there are any small doubts about his involvement this weekend, Pochettino has the maximum time available to rejig his own plans.

It raises questions though as to when he picked up the issue in the game because he did, of course, complete all 90 minutes on Saturday.
