We’re yet to get back to silly season with the January transfer window, but that doesn’t completely stop the rumour mill from ticking over and this one caught my eye earlier today – we aren’t really interested in this West Ham United player are we?
For some reason, Ladbrokes have installed us as favourites to sign 19-year-old Hammer Declan Rice.
The versatile player does make sense on some levels. He would give manager Mauricio Pochettino options given the positions he can play in, he’s young with development potential and he’s also available on a free as he’s yet to sign the contract the club have put in front of him – and his deal ends next summer.
Unless I’ve missed something though, the reports I’ve seen are instantly flawed because they suggest we plan to sign the player to a pre-contract deal, and the last I was aware, that only applies to players moving out of the country – you cannot sign a pre-contract deal with another club in the same Football Association.
Good for the bench ????????????????

how does that work, signing a player with expending a single pence?

West Ham will have no say, if Rice wants to leave on a Bosman next summer, wherever he goes. It'd be good to get another one over on that poxy little club.

He’ll be no loss to the above fans at least, but until his future is sorted now he’s appeared, we’ll see the link feature regularly as we get closer to the New Year.
