“There`s only one Saddam”!

Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp, has stated that players and fans really don`t care about who owns the club as long as they splash the cash.

When speaking about the vast sums of money spent by Manchester City this and last summer, Harry said: “Football fans don`t care. The players don`t care. Saddam Hussein could own your football club and, if he`s putting millions into it, they`ll be quite happy. They`ll be singing: “There`s only one Saddam”.

‘I`ve seen it all before. They don`t care if you`re putting the money in.`

In many ways it`s difficult to argue, after reading so many “we are standing still” or “where are the signing” comments, but is this really the case that fans and players are so fickle that as long as someone pays big money we don`t care who is in charge?

Personally I like to think that an increasing number of fans at Spurs and elsewhere appreciate the great jobs their owners do, often on a shoestring or certainly within sensible financial constraints.

I have backed Enic for their sensible approach to running our club, whilst also appreciating that they do give every manager big money to spend, yet still balance the books, which is no mean feat.

Clubs like Everton and Villa, have owners who seem very respected by their fans, without actually spending a great deal and in the case of Randy Lerner, fans seem happy to blame Martin O`Neil for the lack of spending instead of the wealthy owners for some reason.

In reality though we all know that fans and players alike are very fickle and if the results don`t go our way, we will very quickly look for someone to blame and that usually ends up at the managers or Chairman`s door pretty quickly, however good a job they are or have been doing.

In truth, we are lucky that we have Daniel Levy, although a business man first and foremost is also a fan of Tottenham Hotspur, which surely has to have some bearing on fans, over someone who simply sees it as a way of making money or as a real life Championship manager game.

But are we learning our lesson and would actually prefer a well run club over someone who simply throws cash as a new toy, with no real feeling for the club or fans???
