“There Is A Lot To Improve” – Pochettino Is Expecting Far More From Spurs Man After Villa Performance

|

With Tottenham Hotspur’s long chase for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele finally coming through during the summer transfer window, plenty of fans were looking forward to seeing what kind of player we had got on our hands having paid a new record fee for the 22-year-old, and he certainly impressed in last weekend’s Premier League opener at White Hart Lane against Aston Villa.

The Frenchman got our leveller on the day before Harry Kane added a brace to give us the 3-1 victory, and his performance in the middle of the park obviously featured in manager Mauricio Pochettino’s post game interviews.

Speaking after the clash to Sky Sports, our gaffer was pleased with his debut but did say he felt fans had only seen ‘glimpses’ of what he was capable of, stating he only showed ’30 or 40%’ of what he’s capable of.

“It was a fantastic performance. But to be honest there is a lot to improve, he only showed 30 or 40 per cent of his potential. He has amazing potential to improve. It’s one of the aspects he needs to work on, he didn’t score too many goals at Lyon, but that is one of the areas that is a target for him to improve this season. It is so early, in his first game he scored. I am delighted for him, he is a player that arrived to the team from another country and it is always a difficult adaption and it is going to help him to feel happy and comfortable on the pitch and with his team.”

Poch is right to point out he still needs time to settle properly at the club and strike up an understanding with the rest of our players, but he genuinely believes that was a 30/40% performance from him, I’m pretty sure fans will be excited about his potential.
