Spurs Word On The Tweet

“The One Time We Bid 50m And It’s For A Player Who’s Going To Cost…” – These Spurs Fans Think We Missed Our Shot With Summer Target

Highly rated defender Matthijs de Ligt is not a new name when it comes to speculation of interest from Tottenham Hotspur in his services, but the beginning of the week saw a claim that we had already made a firm offer for him – but we saw it rejected.

De Ligt remains a regular name on the rumour mill even though the window is now closed, and Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claimed on Monday that in August we had submitted a 50million Euro bid for the 19-year-old Ajax defender but it was rejected out of hand.

It’s claimed that Barcelona are now in the driving seat come the January window, but whether Spurs will return with an uplift in our offer remains to be seen – it will only intensify Toby Alderweireld speculation though as it’s not difficult to assume the club and manager Mauricio Pochettino identified him as a long-term replacement.

Money talks in football – will Pochettino’s ring-fenced budget stretch that far?
