It would come as no surprise with both strikers scoring excellent goals on Sunday, that the principle question asked of St. Martin Jol was if he’d settled on a preferred partnership makes interesting reading … as reported on Sky Sports,
‘Berbatov and Defoe found the back of the net on Sunday, but they have been told not to rest on their laurels.
‘There is every chance I could change the partnership for every game’, said the Dutchman.’I will always play my best team for every match.’
‘They have to push me in every training session, every week. If they can do that they are true professionals. It is not rotation. I do not like that because the players then wait for their matches to come around. I don’t want that – they must be eager.’
Whilst it is good to know that selection is not based on it being someone’s turn for a game I am a little concerned that players on £25,000-£50,000 a week need to be reminded that they should behave like true professionals!!
