The Football Gods Are Smiling Down On The Lane

Tottenham: Five (Or Six) Games To Go!

Listen carefully. Can you hear that? It’s the sound of the fat lady warming up her vocals. We’ve nearly come down to the wire. The finishing line beckons. We’ve almost reached the end of the penny section. Almost!

There are three Premier League games to go and there are two or three Champions League games remaining.

You don’t have to be an optimist to believe that we will be watching CL football at The Lane next season. The way our nearest competitors are imploding around us is remarkable. To be honest, we were well set for third place until our wheels started to wobble a short while back. But Spurs have recovered and are back on track. With three games left, one win will probably see us finish in the top four, and two wins would probably see us finish in third. Just to confirm; three wins won’t give us the title!

Tottenham’s amazing journey down the Champions League road will continue for at least two more games. Success here will put Spurs into the greatest game in our long and glorious (all things considered) history. Now that will be something worth watching, whatever happens.

Given the many hurdles that Spurs have overcome as this season has progressed I can’t help feeling that, this time, the football gods are smiling down on the Lane and pushing our team forward. We may not have as many ‘star players’ as some of our competition but we have something just as good; a squad of players that never give up, play for each other and believe that they can achieve great things. They have unity and respect, and they have no fear. As some clubs are beginning to understand, you can’t buy that!

We also have a manager who has guided his team to this point of the journey despite the difficulty of juggling a team depleted again and again by injuries to key players. But that’s where squad unity comes into play.

None of us know what the end of this journey will look like but surely we would all have liked to be in our current situation back in August. Finishing in the top four and reaching the CL semi-finals has to be considered a successful outcome. A top-four finish and CL semi-final could well become a top three finish, a CL final …. and GLORY. To Dare Is To Do. We are daring and we are doing.
