The CovYid Joke & Good News Thread 2

|

With Tottenham Hotspurs’ decision to furlough non-playing staff, whilst players continued to take their full contracted wage – it naturally led to a fair amount of ‘strong’ discussion and our previous thread wasn’t quite the ‘distraction’ it was originally intended to be.

So here’s another one.

Good news stories, awful jokes, nonsense and such like please Vital Spurs.

My wife just got some bad news, a para-medic who saved her life, heart attack, a number of years ago has just passed with the “Virus”, god rest his sole.

    Sorry about the sad news.

  • Geofspurs says:

PY …. That must be very sad news for you and your wife. My best wishes to you both, mate.

    • PompeyYid says:

Geofspurs…Thank you for that from both of us, unfortunately not the first my wife knows, the other 3 were all from her “Pain clinic” club so all had underlying ailments, so you can imagine how scared she gets, thus no leaving the home or even letting anybody in. Cheers again mate.

Good afternoon Spurs fans. I hope you are all safe and well.
If anyone is interest the City v Spurs Champions League quarter final is being shown in full on the Tottenham Hotspur website tonight at 7.45PM
Highlights are also on BT Sport at 6PM tonight.
As everyone has been talking about music here are some of my favourite albums:
Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On – a soul classic
Bobby Womack – The Poet 1 and The Poet 2 – both classic soul albums
Albert King – Born Under a Bad Sign – classic blues
John Mayall and the Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton – more classic blues
Koko Taylor by Koko Taylor – more classic blues
Anything by BB King, ALbert King and John Lee Hooker.

As you can tell I am a massive blues fan, working at home allows me to listen to it pretty well all day.

For TV fans, series 6 of Bosch is released on Amazon Prime today – excellent cop stuff from Los Angeles. We’ve also downloaded Sopranos and the Shield from sky box sets to re-watch.
Other recommendations (I am sure most of these are familiar to you)
Dexter – a Miami PD serial killer (only kills the bad guys who got through the system)
House of Cards (political intrigue from the White House)
24 (counter terrorism in real time)
    Spiral (superb French cop drama)
Chicago PD (superb American cop drama)

Did anyone enjoy Ricky Gervais’s Afterlife last year – I heard that series 2 is out next week.

That’s all for now guys – with all this TV, I’m barely missing football, i do miss my weekly game of golf though.

Hi guys just looking at some of your musical tastes. I play in a small band guitar /mandolin vocal.
(available for weddings, and barmitsvas). Some good stuuf to listen. PY get a listen to a band called Blackberry Smoke they may be to your taste. We do a couple of their songs. “one horse town'” I ain’t got the blues, “made me rock n roll again.
    Woman goes into the doctors.
Doctor when I pass wind Its quite smelly.
Doctor says take you clothes off and get on the couch.
As she gets on the couch she farts and turns to apologise.
She sees the doctor with a big stick with a hook on the end.
Oh Doctor what are you going to do with that.
I’m going to open the window yer stinkin.

    • PompeyYid says:

ND….thanks very much for your recco of Blackberry Smoke, I have just bought/ordered 3 of their CD’s…The Whippor Will 2014, Like an Arrow 2016 and Find the Light 2018, I listened to a nos of the tracks pre-buying and was impressed, so bought 3 lol!, but I was so surprised at how many CD’s they had released, am eagerly awaiting so thanks again.

DH…great taste in music, though am more into the “Blues” side of your taste, esp’ John Lee Hooker.
It seems we have similar tastes in the TV series you mentioned, all very good, have you tried the 3 series, True Detectives also very good.

Keep safe all my fellow YIDS. COYS 4 ever

  • Niall D says:

Glad you liked the recommend. Good solid band heavier than the Eagles lighter than Skynnard. Saw em live very good band. If you also get a look at Chris Stapleton. A bit countryish but gr8 guitarist and fantastic vocal. Hope you all stay well.
What’s brown and looks in your window.
    A nosey shite.

  • Niall D says:

Hi guys on this “funny” page. I was just thinking on life mottos. A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer had the op, bag fitted, removed, chemo, radio, large hernia surgery and other complications. However they couldn’t keep my job open and got early retirement. I was listening to the post covid people who came outta hospital looking at life in a new way. And so did I at the time.
I take my motto from the film Bucket list its something like this.
Never pass a toilet, Never trust a fart, Never waste a hard on. And a more serious Buddah quote
Once you feel avoided by someone, never disturb them again.
Have any of you guys got wisdom to pass on for me to add to this.

  • PompeyYid says:

ND….thanks for all that, motto’s made me laugh….my bit of wisdom is simple…take no shit off anyone! lol! Keep keeping safe mate and the the rest of you YIDS the same. COYS 4 ever

  • Geofspurs says:

I’m loving this home isolation thing. It’s a real adventure. I’ve found rooms I didn’t even know existed …. and some of them have kids in!

  • Geofspurs says:

I just took my trusty pet for a two hour walk and now I feel as fit as a fiddle. Its amazing how one lap of the garden with a tortoise can improve your well-being!

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Pompey Yid, I couldn’t get into Trues Detective, it was a bit slow and depressing for me. I know some people love it though. My wife and I watched 7 episodes of the new series of Bosch yesterday, excellent stuff. Not quite our record though, we once did 13 episodes of 24 in one day.
Has anyone seen Nurse Jackie. It is a comedy drama based around a New York nurse (played by Eddie Falco who was Tomy Soprano’s wife in the Sopranos) who is addicted to pain killing drugs. It is truly excellent.
    Stay safe everyone COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

DH….I can see where your coming from about True Detectives, yes some will love it others will hate it.
Bosch, am with you 100% on that series, and yes we have watched Nurse Jackie, very good.

If you have all the tech’ as in Netflix, Fire-stick blah blah there are so many good TV series to watch, which will not be seen on terrestrial TV because it is not PC enough.
As my missus is house bound all this tech’ stuff is excellent for her.

All you Fellow Yids keep staying safe. COYS 4 ever

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Pompey yid, we finished Bosch yesterday – it is such a good series.
We were recommended Sex education on Netfilx but we thought it was a bit infantile.
We are now thinking of re-watching either The Sopranos or The Shield – both excellent

    Stay safe everyone COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

DH….we will be watching Bosch next, The Sopranos & The Shield both excellent series.

Here are a few more we have watched and enjoyed…

Hell on Wheels x 6 seasons, its about the race across the USA by 2 railroad companies.
The Killing x 4 seasons, psycho, murder, mystery.
Narcos x 3 seasons, true story made for TV catching the big South American crime lord.
Ray Donovan x 7 seasons, he is a fixer, sorts problems out/cover ups etc.
Vikings x 6 seasons, story of the Viking invasions of Britain, made into a story line.

All different types, we enjoyed, hope you do.
Keep/Stay safe all. COYS 4 ever

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

PY – agree with the Killing, Narcos and Ray Donovan although I thought Ray Donovan lost it’s way towards the end, he always seemed to be staggering around drunk and either just beaten up or about to be beaten up all the team.
Talking of The Killing, other great Danish series are The Bridge which is Swedish/Danish police drama with a brilliant but socially inept Swedish cop and Borgen a Danish political drama. Both excellent
To be honest I have never heard of Hell on Wheels.

  • PompeyYid says:

ND….another thanks for your recco’ “Blackberry Smoke” just finished listening to their CD “The Whippoorwill” twice, am impressed, chill and tap feet while nodding the bonce, very good, now for their CD “Find a Light”, thanks again mate., you and your kin keep safe.

Keep keeping safe all my fellow Yids. COYS 4 ever

  • PompeyYid says:

Haha, DH, yes your probably right about Ray Donovan, agreed regards the “Bridge” very good, try the English version, “The Tunnel” 3 seasons.

Hell on Wheels is a shit kicker, western, set as I say during the great race to build a railway across the states, I enjoyed it, try and find it, enjoy it or not, bloody, politics, red Indian’s, religion the lot. You and your kin stay safe mate.

Keep keeping safe all my fellow Yids. COYS 4 ever.

  • Niall D says:

Anytime PY. Yes a good old style Rock band. Good mix of acoustic and rock sounds. Check out the Back Yard sessions. Glad you like em. Best to you and Mrs PY.

    • PompeyYid says:

ND…again thanks for the recco’s, I have just done a weight training session to their, Blackberry Smoke, CD “Find a Light”, so much heavier/rock wise, 2 CD’s both so different, love em both, they are a very stylish/moody band, because their style seems to cover what ever mood you find yourself in. All the best and keep safe to you and your kin. COYS 4 ever

  • Niall D says:

Anyone into a bi of blues. There’s a guy out there Dion Di Mucci has a good blues acoustic album called Son of Skip James. Listen to Drop Down Mama, or Preachin Man Blues. Good listening. He is the 1950’s Dion but you wouldn’t believe it.

  • PompeyYid says:

ND….as a Heavy Metal/Rock/blues fan that album rings a bell, ting ting in the brain, so am searching through my many years collection, attic etc everywhere, inbetween my duties of carer for my lovely wife, note the creeping there lol!

You and your kin keep safe as all my fellow YIDS. COYS 4 ever

  • PompeyYid says:

As nobody is chatting, I thought I would say about me and the missus’s day yesterday, it was a heavy metal n Blues day, we watched “Iron Maidens World tour of 2008”, a documentary about Eric Burden of the “Animals”, a 2.5 hr doc regards the life of ZZ Top, and listened to probably my most fave guitarist “Gary Moore” and his Blues, what a day in the sun listening and watching to some brilliant sounds.

Keep on keeping safe all. COYS
