The CovYid Distraction Thread 1

|

With the current hiatus in the 2019/20 fixture list and no real clues as to when, or if, the campaign will continue or be voided – we all need a bit of distraction as we know transfer rumours have already spiked and there will be more nonsense on the newsfeeds than even Donald Trump can muster in a single off-script press conference.

While away the time here with chat, nonsense and even good news stories doing the rounds to help keep our spirits up during this period.

And above all else, as we self isolate or social distance – follow the advice – but don’t forget to say ‘morning or evening’ to folks and check if those close to you (or even the random neighbour you don’t really know) are okay.

We’ve all seen stories of the worst of us, let’s make sure we continue to do our part in being the best of us.

In addition Geof, you say the people have made the church rich and it’s time they gave something back, doesn’t the same apply to top level footballers? I accept that there are exceptions to every rule and they are not all selfish but a good number demonstrate regularly by their actions that they are.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Hi Geof. I do hope you and your loved ones are well and safe. And I extend that to all of you VS’ers out there…

I totally agree with you on all of that, Geof. As I also agree with much of what Loz has written on here. With exception to her stance on Jose and the lads training… I see that what they did was against all advice but it wasn’t a crime. And I refuse to put myself up as a voluntary C-19 policeman. There are thousands the country over that are not doing exactly the right thing but still being careful, nonetheless.

This uncanny situation that the planet now finds itself in is of course a highly emotive set of circumstances for us all. But I personally believe that aiming our anger at certain individuals in this, taking a moral high ground and playing the blame game is counter-productive and in itself could be seen as an act of selfishness. And to tar a whole group of PL players as though they are by design an unthinking and unfeeling mass, lacks the humility and humanity that we could all be doing with a lot more of right now… For example; I wished you all well in my first post on here in about 2 months. And not one of you has even acknowledged me or taken just a few words to ask me how I am or just simply say hi… Is it perhaps that you are all too wrapped up in yourself to care? Or maybe just too angry and self-occupied to bother?

By the way, I don’t need your response to that. But I do just wonder why no one has ben at all personal or personable toward a fellow poster who is in exactly the same boat as we all are…This does seem so very odd to me. Oh well!

Please stay well, stay sane and stay a Spur!

    • Danny Winter says:

In fairness HT, I didn’t realise it was two months if that’s what it was. What I can say is there were a good few posts asking after you, wishing you well, and so on (and I’ve caught a few comments since I ‘joined’ about people I’ve never heard of lol). So when you did return, given this is all pretty anonymous and we don’t get personal (and I can only speak for myself) I was just glad to see you return and see that you were fine, and didn’t want to impose by giving you the Spanish inquisition, so to speak.

      • Hot Tottingham says:

Hi Danny. Maybe not quite 2 months)…they were just moody, rhetorical questions. And I was feeling a little less human than usual. I was a little desperate for a simple Hello..

But even after I posted that, I felt better and I’m not really that needy.

I have spent a lot of my time (more than usual) looking after folks that just can’t fend for themselves and have little or no communication skills. I have to get close and personal with them and yet can’t really have a regular conversation. This is both good and bad… I can’t really explain…

I won’t go into detail…. But for a few reasons, I’m a lucky one in all this, in a perverse way… But I’m just glad for a few days rest. I feel sorry for the many that now have too much enforced time to themselves, whereas I’m glad for it…

        It’s a funny old world…

  • Hot Tottingham says:

By the way… My real name is Martin. I am male. I live in South London, England. I will soon be 60 years old. I am a Spurs supporter. My favourite colour is…….

Ah, but you don’t need to know all that, do you… 🙂

    • TQ2Spurs says:

HT/Martin……I never imagined you to be anything other than male, might have been different if you had used the handle Hot Totty though! 🙂

      • Hot Tottingham says:

Hi TQ… There used to be a poster on here named “Hot Totty”, a while back… It wasn’t me!

And if any of you ex-posters are reading this but just not posting. I do hope you are all well and safe…

        AND

        Up the Spurs!

    • Danny Winter says:

I’m now obsessed with your favourite colour HT?

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. I think it’s way more complicated than that for individuals. There are too many philosophical issues to consider and we can never know someone’s complete circumstances. Being selfish is not a crime. To simply say they earn much more than me so they should contribute more than me lacks a certain logic. But comparing assistance provided by governments with what the religious denominations have (or have not) provided seems easier and more realistic.

    • 62rovinella says:

geof i most certainly agree with you.
The church or leaders thereof have been milking their congregations for years and not doing much in the sense of physically giving back,in a crisis such as this what have they been doing.?
      Minimal if anything,
I see pastors telling people to send their offerings and tithes online.what the hell?i dont see much of them doing delivery or contributing to the needs of those they should be helping.should be ashamed of themselves…..
To you all,try to be safe and pray….even for our beloved footy….god bless and keep us all….selah

      • Danny Winter says:

I do not understand people who are religious (my family are pretty religious lol). But if that’s what it takes for them to do good, we all have our baselines. I have no problems there and I accept, despite doubting, the beliefs play a part in my life.

But yes, instead of praying (no pun) on taxes and donations….where’s the Pope and others giving back at a moment like this?

I don’t believe in a God…but if there is one, I’m pretty sure they don’t want or need a share of your hard earned income. I’m pretty sure, being omnipotent and all that, he/she/it, can’t only hear you in one building.

I’m pretty sure you don’t need £200 odd quid to speak for 15 minutes at a funeral and so on, and so on.

Don’t send hopes and prayers….spend the cash and provide food to those that need it. That would increase my belief.

    • Danny Winter says:

I think that misses the point Geof. It’s not about a contribution…it’s about players acknowledging they should lose out, like the rest of us are. Footballers, privately, do a shed load of charity work (whether club ordered or not) but this isn’t that. It’s about taking their cut to protect others, clubs, and the game in general.

It’s not about ‘doing more’. It’s about taking their ‘share’ and not polemically living in a bubble and thinking they are entitled.

      • Geofspurs says:

Hi Danny ….. Page 2 makes on-going discussion difficult but ….

I certainly can’t agree with you there, mate. To say some people should miss out because others miss out, when nobody is to blame for the circumstances, seems a strange way of thinking :
I have less so you should have less.
I have bad luck so you should have bad luck.
I lost my employment so you should lose your employment.
I got sick so you should get sick.
I want everything you’ve got whether I deserve it or not.

It becomes all about ‘I’. We impose our thoughts on what others should be doing. Where does that idea come from? Who gives anyone the right to think that? And if people get frustrated or angry because someone does not, according to them, do the right thing …. then that’s their problem, surely.

        • Loz says:

All we can do is do what we feel is right when it comes to this pandemic. Whether we feel praying is the right thing. Whether we feel giving finacialmsupport, or cutting wages to save our business, or volunteering or simply just adhering to governments advice to stay in. We cannot impose our ideals on others or judge others really has non of us are perfect and non of us know what is going on in others lives, businesses and mind.

Some businesses may feel why should they lose out. They didn’t start this pandemic and they may even feel the government has not done their job in containing it earlier enough so why should their business suffer. We could say as a human race we are all responsible for this pandemic. The cruelty to animals is of the scale and if we believe in karma then is it no wonder we are now seeing more animal to human viruses. Some of the things I’ve seen recently how humans treat animals is disgusting and everytime we put a piece if meat in our mouth we are supporting it and therefore the law of cause and effect will take its course.

Back to footballing decisions and what Levy has done and not down is complex. Its like we are quick to judge yet are we perfect. We imo need to look at the bigger picture and to me that is why has this pandemic happened, are we responsible has a human race, are we contributing to these things, if we are then what right have we to judge the decisions people are making now. Until we take responsibility for our own actions, moral living, ethical living and everyday way if living then i don’t feel its right to judge anyone. We are not fully experiencing Levys world and Levy isnt fully experiencing our world but we are all experiencing this pandemic and the crutch of the matter to me is getting to the root cause of why these pandemics are happening and whether we has a human race are responsible.

The way this pandemic is affecting our life and putting everyone in a position to fight or flight, to do good or bad to avoid or face is secondary. If we can say we live a ethical, moral, kind, compassionate life and are perfect then go ahead and judge, ive yet to meet a single person who is perfect.

Im more concerned about the bigger issues, of the way this pandemic started, wet market presumably and the way animals are treated and the way humans are supporting a industry of cruelty to sentient beings. Get the cause sorted and then we want be in this position, but of course not many want to sacrifice their meat do they, they don’t want end animal cruelty, suffering because they want to satisfy their taste pleasure. Yet they want to judge Levy for cutting someone’s pay. Its ok to support cruelty and abuse, rape and killing but they can’t support Levys financial decisions. Mark my words, this pandemic is almost 100% cause by us humans supporting animals cruelty.

  • Niall D says:

I think the Crux of the issue with many here is that non playing staff “appear” to be paying a price of the current crisis. Whilst the players manager (et Al) are on full wages whilst “not” doing their full job (ie) playing football. I know they can’t etc.. I think the players could’ve shown some social responsibility with their fellow employees and done something. Just like Southampton have done. I also feel HK could’ve, should’ve taken the the Jordan Henderson initiative in all players donating what they want /can to a charity. I understand their stance in not wanting to cover the cost of stadium staff for the likes of Levy however an offer to stand together and take a cut along with non playing stadium staff would at least show solidarity. I also agree why only footballers, however this is Vital Spurs not vital Rod Stewart or Elton John.

    • Danny Winter says:

I’m not a particular fan of Hancock, but he was asked a direct question and answered – even Cameron called out Jimmy Carr for his use of a scheme, yet Tory doner Gary Barlow used the same one and went unquestioned.

The response to Hancock’s words have been well out of order by those in the game for me. It’s deflection. Deferrals are a step in the right direction, but it’s not a share of the pain most, if not all, are experiencing.

I get players don’t want owners to benefit soley…I agree.

But if players won’t aid a club taking full care of non-playing staff (with no money coming in), then what does that say about their thoughts to the canteen staff who keep their pampered lives going, the physio’s and medical staff who take care of them and so on.

The overpaid tossers would be the first to moan if they only got 80% of their plate at dinner or 80% of a massage etc. And they can’t even agree a 30% cut….I’d say 80% cut with a portion to the club for staff, the rest goes down the pyramid and they take care of their own industry.

And they still wouldn’t miss it.

There defence, we can give to charity and we don’t want to deny the Treasury the money we give. The NHS has a blank cheque and the likes of Taylor and Snodgrass think tax is a choice? FFS.

I’m getting more annoyed with every passing day – and yes Niall, other industry’s like music should be doing the same – this isn’t an attack on footballers – it’s an attack on those in a bubble that we fund yet they think they are superior.

  • Geofspurs says:

HT … Hey, mate. Yes, me and mine are all good at the moment. I hope it’s the same for you. I did suggest somewhere that it was time you checked in with the site.

WA has closed its borders with the rest of the country and, because the State is so big, has created nine internal boundaries which people have to remain in. The message is basically the same as everywhere … stay local.

Reading more, writing more, watching more movies and going for walks, have partly replaced the time devoted to sport. Remember sport? And at least one weekly cruise on my Kawasaki helps keep me balanced and sane. Motorbikes tend to do that.

Amazing to think this global shut-down could go on for another 6 months, at least. The world will not be the same at the end of it. I can’t help thinking that the collateral damage will be a lot worse, last a lot longer and adversely affect the lives of many more people, than the virus that started it all … .

Maybe other posters might like to share how this epidemic has affected them??

Stay safe, keep sane, and most importantly, retain your sense of humour … or all is lost.

    • Hot Tottingham says:

And… For your Kawasaki I have my bicycle. Keeps me fit(ish) and half-sane at least…

London has never been so quiet on the roads for so many a year. It’s a good thing for a cyclist and a man who likes to breath. LOL!

Everyday is like Sunday’s used to be, long ago. Less traffic, shops shut and the local common (ironically) busier than usual on a weekday. Even when it was still cold a week or more ago… It’s now like summer. Warm and sunny.

Luckily I have my garden to tend to. It would be nightmarish to be back in my old bedsit that’s for sure…

How on earth do so many inner-city cooped up people cope in all of this?

Still, the enemy may be a silent and invisible one but at least there are no bombs and bullets to evade in this strange war! Thank Hodd for such small mercies!

  • Geofspurs says:

I just had two posts instantly appear!!

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Don’t get too excited Geof, sometimes you just hit a sweet spot as the queued posts appear! :- )

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I’m pleased to know that Geof.

Also: See my above response to Danny…. I was feeling a wee bit sorry for myself… But it’s a strange thing for me to sound so needy just for a simple “Hi”… But I have very insular neighbours where I live and they keep themselves to themselves at the best of times… I worry that many young folks in particular will become even more insular after all of this. When it’s the opposite that is really needed.

    I’m now just rambling… So what’s new? 🙂

  • Geofspurs says:

I can’t quite get a handle on how posts appear on different parts of the thread at different times. Does it make a difference if you reply to a specific post or simply post a comment at the very end. I’ve found that when I go back on a thread I see posts that were not there before. As if I don’t have other things to worry about!

  • Geofspurs says:

HT …. Not sure, but I think it’s illegal to ramble at the moment …. unless you ramble on your own and maintain a discreet distance between yourself and anyone you feel inclined to ramble to. It can be very confusing. Apart from that …. happy rambling.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Nothing new HT….. but we are all pleased you’re still able to ramble! 🙂

  • block 108 spurs says:

We all need to follow instructions from UK Govt. For those of you who may of missed this little gem of not following lockdown. This week there was a guy arrested on M1 Leicestershire late evening .. 110 mph 2 kids in the car, on way back to nottingham. He told the cops went to London for a loaf of bread, because £1 cheaper !. Idiot….

  • PompeyYid says:

HT….my sincere apologies for not responding to your “wish us well post a while ago”, you are probably right in saying maybe we were too wrapped up in our own worlds, you are spot on there regards me and my pooly wife, I say again am sorry.

I do truly hope you and your family are keeping well and safe. COYS 4 ever.

  • PompeyYid says:

Goefspur….It seems all is well with yourself and family, great to hear.

Regards you and your bike and going out for some “wind in the hair” trips, yes I know you have probably got a helmet on, its is lucky you can do that, but here in the home land all unnecessary trips are banned/forbidden/taboo, so again lucky you lol!

My experience with this disaster is quite simple, my wife and I are on total lockdown, hate that bloody word, not because of our age, but because the missus is in the “high risk+” category, but we are coping, and thanks for asking.

HT/Martin…I will not say the word “HI” but wotcha mate, keep safe, you and your kin, and I say the same to all you YIDS out there. COYS 4 ever

  • Geofspurs says:

PY …. Good to know that you and the missus are hanging in there. None of us have much choice but to wait it out. Pity we all have no idea how long for. I think my cruising might be restricted soon but walking will be okay.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I didn’t intend it to be a dig at anyone PY. More an observation of what is perfectly understandable just now…

I know that folks have their good reasons to be either angry and/or busy like yourself… I wish you and your wife as well as can be…

    • PompeyYid says:

HT….I know you didn’t intend it to be a dig, but it did open my eyes, so thank you for that and the best wishes.

Again you and your kin keep safe. COYS 4 ever

  • Niall D says:

Dany Agreed! On your last post. It just highlights the pampered bubble these asshol% live in. Going to their holiday cottages etc.. And guess what these are the people who will get the Knight hoods and OBEs for what, doing their job and getting well paid for it and often not living or paying tax to the UK . I’m fairly lucky over here as said I live in a remote area, near several small villages. No queues in shops can go for walks runs etc without any one near. To all those inlarge towns ans cities without outside space, my thoughts are with you all please stay safe folks the good times will be back and you’ll be able to stroll to that little bakery or cafe which usually takes me 1/2 hour. And it doesn’t take you two days travel(and a small fortune) to see your favourite football team. Keep yer heads up were starting to win COYS.

Something to do …. look for the song ‘Dreamtime’ by Peter Brandy on YouTube.

  • Geofspurs says:

This is supposed to be a distraction thread. It’s not working. Why not make it more distracting and lighthearted by sharing some jokes, stories, poems, etc?

    • Pauric says:

Well Levy and Enic corporation are really dragging this club down, Loz said Daniel Levy cares for the community and maybe he does but this shows otherwise pig headed and stubborn. Because of his decision to hit the lowest earners at the club first and claim of the British government scheme has brought our club Tottenham Hotspur through the gutters for 10 days and counting. I was shocked when I heard Liverpool where following our chairmans decision but within 24 hrs changed there stance otherwise Liverpool football would also have been humiliated. Southampton and West ham players have come to agreements with the Manchester clubs working with players on a agreement. The Players and the top hierarchy should take there paycuts and pay the average and lower paid workers there full pay to get them through this horrible time in everyone’s life. I understand Levy has to run the club and he’s worrying about the financial side of the club but when your in high powered positions you have to bring the people with you and work through this together instead he antagonised the fans and workers a bit of diplomacy mate. When this pandemic is killed of through people doing what there told to do bye health experts and the scientist coming up with a vaccine I think football and the money involved in it may change drastically I. E. Transfer fees 30-40% reductions, wages cut, but also sky, BT cutting the massive deals to televise the top sports,I suppose anyone who says they know the outcome is just bullshiting really haha.finally Its never to late to do the right thing go on Danny boy surprise me. Stay safe stay vital spurs
