Match Preview

Teams: Spurs vs Saints

|

The long-awaited line-ups have been confirmed for our opening game of the season against Southampton. It is an identical line-up to our default XI from the latter half of last season – first choice back five, first choice midfield pairing, first choice front three. Places on the bench for new signings Forster, Lenglet, Spence, Perisic, and even Bissouma, who has recovered from a hamstring injury to feature on the nine man bench – remember, it’s five subs from now, so we may see some of the new faces in action.

So without further ado, our matchday squad is as follows:

Lloris (captain), Royal, Romero, Dier, Davies, Sessegnon, Hojberg, Bentancur, Kulusevski, Kane, Son.

Subs: Forster, Sanchez, Lenglet, Doherty, Spence, Perisic, Bissouma, Gil, Lucas.

Our visitors hand debuts to Gavin Bazunu, Romeo Lavia and Joe Aribo, and line up in what appears to be a back three of Jan Valery, Jan Bednarek and Mohamed Salisu with ex-Spur Kyle Walker-Peters on the right, Moussa Djenepo on the left. Their midfield trio comprises David Beckham tribute act and skipper James Ward-Prowse, new signing Romeo Lavia and hardman Oriol Romeu, with Aribo and Adam Armstrong up top. The chaps who scored in the 3-2 win here last season, Che Adams and Mohamed El-younoussi, find themselves on the visiting bench.

Saints: Bazunu, Walker-Peters, Valery, Salisu, Bednarek, Djenepo, Ward-Prowse (captain), Lavia, Romeu, Aribo, Adam Armstrong,

Subs: Mccarthy, Perraud, Diallo, Stephens, Bella-Kotchup, Stuart Armstrong, Redmond, El-younoussi, Adams.

A solid line-up that got us top four…here’s hoping they get the job done!

Gentlemen, let the season begin! The lads are on the pitch! Glory, glory, Hallelujah!

  • TK says:

Let Emerson Royal be MOTM! Second star: Sess.

    Why not?

I’m so excited for this season. Let’s not see it going Spursy!

  • TK says:

well, it’s a Spursy start at 12 minutes.

COYS. Now is the time to play like it’s 1961. Do it for the ghost of the lad wearing number 4 in 1961.

Looks like our poor pre season has continued….

  • 123spurs says:

How have we sess and royal still starting.

  • TK says:

    YEA! Sess! Yes, Sess!

It’s a new start to a new season.

  • TK says:

It’s a dire dire Dier situation for Southampton. first lead of the season. COYS.

  • TK says:

First lead of the season at the interval. I’ll take it, even though a bit sloppy at times. Seems there’s a bit of spirit in the lads. No anxiety after giving up the opening goal.

  • TK says:

Poo only with a draw vs. who? lol. Thanks to who for taking two points away from Poo. Let the minnows take the krill from the mouths of thw whales.

  • TK says:

the gods were with us on the third goal. we ought to win the three points today. good to start the season two points to the good vs Poo.

fourth goal does it! it’s turned into a miserable day for Southie after their opening goal. KOOLOO!

  • TK says:

    A satisfying start to 2022-2023.

  • TK says:

First place on GD. Run up those scores, lads. Run up those scores.

And start getting some clean sheets.

At the end of the season, first place, and top four might be done on goal differences.

Run up those scores, lads. The more goals you score, the more money in the bank for you.

  • TK says:

Everton with lack of goal scorers this season and Dele Alli still sits on the reserves. What a sad turn his career has taken. Since Poch was sacked, it’s been all downhill for Dele Alli. WTF?
