Team news: Tottenham midfielder to miss Arsenal clash, nearing a recovery

|

Tottenham confirm Dele Alli will miss Saturday’s clash with Arsenal as he’s still undergoing rehabilitation. The 22-year-old has been out of action since mid-January with a hamstring injury, but the report states Dele is in the late stages of his recovery.

In his absence, Spurs’ form has been inconsistent. They were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Chelsea on January 24 and suffered a similar fate in the FA Cup by Crystal Palace on January 27. Tottenham then beat Watford, Newcastle United and Leicester City in the Premier League, but they’ve since lost to Burnley and Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are currently third in the table with 60 points from 28 games, nine points adrift of leaders Liverpool. Dele has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating 11 goals. His last appearance was against Fulham on January 20. He was brought off late in the game and has spent six weeks out.

The England international is expected back in March, but Pochettino has already played down any chance of his return coming in the Champions League next week. Tottenham will face Southampton four days after their European excursion and will then have a three-week break due to their Crystal Palace clash being postponed. Dele could be back to face Liverpool on March 31.
