Sunderland loan for right-back

|

With reports arising earlier that young right-back Djed Spence is looking for a loan move away from the club (read more about that here), Tottenham Hotspur have this evening confirm that another right-back has secured a temporary move away from the club.

Indeed, 20-year-old right back Esther Morgan of the women’s team has secured a move to Sunderland on loan until the end of the season, with the Black Cats confirming that the Welsh international wear the number 3 shirt with her new club.

Speaking to Sunderland’s official website, the Mackems’ head coach Mel Reay spoke of her delight at Morgan’s signing:

“We’re delighted to bring Esther in on loan. She’s a young player who’s got a lot of ambition and we hope we can help improve her, and she’s going to add depth to the squad.”

Tottenham manager Rehanne Skinner then weighed in with her views on the move, saying it suited both clubs and the player due to its potential to aid Morgan’s development:

“We are pleased that Esther has a loan opportunity for the remainder of the season with Sunderland.

“I’m confident that the work Mel and her team do at Sunderland will aid Esther’s development and help her to gain competitive minutes following a long period out last year,” said Skinner (quotes again courtesy of Sunderland’s official website).

In a busy week for the women’s team, Rehanne Skinner’s side crashed out of the Conti Cup quarter-finals last night at home to Chelsea.
