Having not featured so far this season for Tottenham Hotspur, right back Serge Aurier’s recent interview during the international break certainly caused a bit of a stir amongst the fanbase.
“Competition…There Isn’t Any” – Spurs Defender Has An Interesting Take On Poch’s Pecking Order
Having admitted he wanted to move on over the summer but ultimately a deal couldn’t be struck, fans on social media certainly latched onto his claim that he had ‘no competition’ for his position at the club as it definitely sounded a bizarre claim given how far down manager Mauricio Pochettino’s pecking order he has been so far this year.
With the September break behind us, Spurs got back to winning ways on Saturday as we hosted Crystal Palace and the 26-year-old did make the starting XI for the game and statistics website Whoscored had him as our fourth best performer on the day, giving him a rating of 7.87 in recognition of his assist in the game.
Whatever fans think about his performance, and there were certainly those demanding a recall ahead of the game, in relation to his interview, it left plenty perplexed.
Oh man, a little dissent creeping in. Serge is a solid RB but he has a history if saying and doing things that just don't sit well. This is why we should have signed Ricardo Pereira when we had the chance.

Thats a lot of big talk from someone who will be training with boot boys for 4 months…

Why on earth did we ever sign him.

Can everyone inside the club just stop talking, stop it.

Great. Leave. Please.

Just get out of this club.

I agree. The management team won't accept such arrogance from Serge. Possibly he's just one of the team who caused instability

It’s fair to say plenty of fans understood what seems to be his frustration, and clearly manager Mauricio Pochettino has no issues with the interview given his selection at the weekend. It’s just another of those curiously timed interviews for me as it wasn’t really needed. But again, it feels like something has been lost in translation here.
