Stats: PSV 2-2 Tottenham – A Lesson In How To Shoot Yourself In The Foot

|

Fresh from victory over West Ham United last weekend as we picked up another three points, Tottenham Hotspur saw a quick turnaround in the fixture list as we made the short trip to Holland to face PSV Eindhoven in our next Group B clash in the Champions League.

Following on from defeats to Inter Milan and Barcelona, if Spurs maintained any hope of securing passage through to the next round of the competition for the 2018/19 campaign, this was the quintessential ‘must win’ match and given the starting lineup for the game, manager Mauricio Pochettino certainly shared that sentiment.

Just ahead of the half-hour mark fans could be forgiven for thinking it was going to be one of those early evenings as the hosts took the lead, however goals either side of the halftime break from Lucas Moura and Harry Kane gave us the advantage and we were pretty comfortable dominating both further chances and possession.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris guaranteed himself some headlines as he saw red with around ten minutes left and it set up a nervy end to the game, especially when they helped themselves to a leveller.

Lloris will have some apologies to make and sadly, I think that’ll be the Champions League campaign gone this year.
