Spurs youngster on verge of loan move

|

Tottenham Hotspur’s young left-footed centre-back Malachi Fagan-Walcott is on reportedly on the verge of a loan move to Swindon Town of League Two.

As per the Swindon Advertiser and Football League World, Fagan-Walcott is in ‘advanced talks’ with the Wiltshire outfit and will join the Robbins on a loan until the end of the season.

Spurs have done business with Swindon recently, when right-back Marcel Lavinier joined the Robbins back in September upon the end of his contract with the Lilywhites.

Fagan-Walcott has struggled for game time with Spurs, and at the age of 20, a loan move to a football league club is crucial for him to take the next step in his fledgling career.

However, time is quickly running out for the youngster who made his debut way back in March 2020 in Spurs’ 3-0 defeat at RB Leipzig under Jose Mourinho in the Champions League.

Indeed, Fagan-Walcott has not featured for the first time in a competitive capacity since that game, and although he has been unlucky with injuries, there are still too many players that are better than him in his position for him to realistically creeo back into the first-team for the foreseeable future.

I therefore cannot see a way back in for him into the Spurs first-team at present given the host of centre-backs ahead of him in the current Tottenham pecking order, even in a system that presently deploys three centre-backs. A loan move thus looks like the best option for all parties at present.
