After a long, and pretty quiet summer for Tottenham Hotspur fans, despite a season extension for the Champions League Final and new record signing Tanguy Ndombele arrive, Premier League football finally returns this Saturday as we welcome newly promoted Aston Villa to our new White Hart Lane Stadium.

After a three year absence from the top flight after their relegation, a dark summer with financial concerns almost saw us snare young talent and England hopeful Jack Grealish, and even though the 23-year-old has admitted his head was turned we failed to come to an agreement and with their take over, he stole the show in 2018/19, but for them, and not us.

We’ve moved on and if we wouldn’t pay the reported £25million, we aren’t going to meet the speculated £60million release fee, but for those in the fanbase who would’ve loved him with us, we’ll all be hoping he has a poor return to the top flight himself as our aim is to build further on last season and pick up the three points that will again establish us quickly at the top of the table.

We’ll then hope injuries don’t get in the way as they did last year and if we can’t challenge genuinely (with consistency) for the top two spots, we’ll at least want to close the points gap to show further progress but on a more immediate basis, it’s all eyes to deadline day as despite Jan Vertonghen recently talking up the group, we all know we need a few more faces through the front door.

  • Grealish scoring for Spurs? And without us having spent a single penny on him? Now that could well be seen as yet another genius financial move from Daniel Levy.

  • With Levy in Miami this week… could he be doing a deal with the owners of the Miami Dolphins ??
A stadium name share.. Tottenham Dolphins Stadium….. 🙂 Or they buy out Enic then we are a club name change to Tottenham Dolphins…. lol

  • Talk of the devil………..Berahino is a free agent after being paid to clear off by Stoke, come on Levy, stop dragging your feet and get it done! lol

  • This forum popped up on my news feed and after reading the article and the comments felt I had to put my 2 pennies worth.
Grealish, this season will tell is if he’s the real deal or not, if he performs in the prem like he did in the championship you guys missed out because he will be worth £100,000,000 if he doesn’t then you guys dodged a bullet.
If we lose to you guys on saturday not a single Villa fan will complain if the team puts in a 100% and even better a decent performance, remember who you are the 4th best team in the premier league, champions league finalists and currently one of the top ten teams in Europe.
We have a new fresh team and yes we are optimistic because this time last year we had Steve Bruce as a manager and was about to go into administration, I know I can speak for most Villa fans when I say if we put in some good performances this season and finish 4th from bottom we will be happy.
    See you guy’s Saturday.

  • Final word on the subject which I just posted on the pre-season thread:

Just listening to Glen Johnson on Talksport talking about his time at the same club as Berahino, boy, he doesn’t paint a very good picture of him!

  • This season will be interesting, Villa will struggle with all new signings to integrate. But should be better around christmas. Welcome back Villa and fans.

  • All of these new players at Spurs but it seems unlikely that any one of them will play tomorrow. Except maybe Ndombele. But I see no rush. He could start or be on the bench. Either way I look forward to his and the others PL/Spurs debuts, soon enough.

  • As I said on the other article, I am pleased with the business we have done in this TW.

The season start tomorrow for us, we are stronger than last year/start of season for many reasons.

So for me “Bring on the VIllans” COYS

  • Now the transfer window nonsense has finally drawn to a close, I hope we can get Eriksen, Vertonghen and Alderweireld to sign new long-term contracts. If we do, I’d consider it a great transfer window.

Think I heard Sessegnon and Lo Celso are inellgible to play tomorrow, but that’s no harm given the fact they’ve only just arrived and had no time with their new team mates yet.

Looking forward to a barn-storming season: we’re going to Win the Premier League and Champions League and who knows, maybe throw in the other two for the Quadruple!
    You heard it here first!

  • ply………Sessegnon has been recovering from an injury so wouldn’t expect him to be available anyway. Lo Celso has been in pre-season with Betis but played late into the Copa America so wouldn’t have lost his fitness levels too much, either way, we know Poch likes to give players plenty of time to acclimatise so don’t expect either to play tomorrow. As far as eligibility goes, I understand that as long as they are registered by midday today they could play tomorrow if required.

  • I’m hoping for a Carabao Cup final (probably runners up) and Europa League qualification at the most.

Levy (as we all know) wouldn’t like any more than just that and, as I am an apologist for him, I can fully accept that. Hopefully our new players are as mediocre as all our all too familiar old ones have been. As it wouldn’t feel right to have it any other way.

Oh sorry it’s the 2019-20 PL season, isn’t it. I had a bit of a scary flashback there, to about 6 or 7 years ago! As you were… CL and PL double it is then…

    Up the Harry-Clappers! Sorry, I mean Happy-Clappers!

  • Well here we go…the well worn tradition of the Bricklayers arms a pie and pint in the stadium and hopefully my first sighter of Ndombele Lo Celso and maybe even Ryan Sess. Not sure how the chants are going to go cos they are difficult names to scan too……wonder how M&M would do it? Have we improved the squad? Lo Celso for Eriksen – Ndombele for Moussa – Sess for Rose? Eriksen I assume will be gone by the end of August as will Aurier for France when the Spanish and French TW finishes, other than Tripps having gone (tfft) we have pretty well the same team. Wanyama I assume will be a bit player . My big concern is on the right with no real quality Right Back. KWP is a good kid but if your looking for weaknesses the RB was our Achilles heal last season….. Alli will have to work hard to get a regular spot Moura and Son look sharp in pre-season, we don’t have an out and out 2nd striker to come in for Kane so a lot more will be expected of our 2 other front men. Midfield looks terrifying lots of heavy horses for the opposition to try and get passed so i guess the opposition may be forced down the wide channels to by-pass Siss and NDom. Will Dier get much game time? Oli Skipp is coming up fast Winks has a good engine ….so the question is …Can Poch win the Premiership with this side? ……answers on a post card…queue Geoff Spur for another article on that question ….over to you Geoffrey!
