Spurs Want A Proper Performance Not A Few Hail Mary’s At Southampton – Match Thread

|

It’s been a steady Christmas for Tottenham Hotspur. Boxing Day saw us take a tough victory over Brighton as we put Chelsea disappointment behind us, and our last fixture of 2019 saw us secure a point against Norwich City. Few can be glowing about the actual performances and we open the 2020 portion of the season with a trip to resurgent Southampton on New Year’s Day.

Again, on paper, it should be a win and all three points but it’s rarely been that simple across 2019 as a whole in reality, and certainly not this season if held in isolation. With that said,
results have gone our way more often than not under Jose Mourinho and come January we’ll also see what Daniel Levy allows him to do in the transfer market – but the educated guess would be nothing dramatic and most likely, it depends on what business we do in terms of sales with plenty of question marks remaining on some players.

Recent form is on our side, but Ralph Hasenhuttl has got Southampton unbeaten in the last three and their overall performance levels have spiked, so if we are dopey at the back they are more than capable of punishing us but we have to be due a clean sheet soon don’t we?

A more Spurs like performance to open 2020 would lift everyone and would be the perfect way to celebrate the turn of the year.

Have a Happy New Year folks!
