Spurs Vying With London Rivals For £24.5m Rated Serie A Hotshot

|

We are interested in signing Napoli forward Dries Mertens, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport (via TMW).

The Italian publication reports that we are considering a move for the 31-year-old who has a release clause of €28m (£24.5m), but we will face competition from Arsenal.

The Belgian international signed a new deal last year that would allow him to leave Naples this summer for a cut-price deal, and it seems that we may be weighing up a possible swoop.

Mertens has been in superb goalscoring form over the last two seasons.  He has scored 22 goals this campaign after hitting the back of the net 34 times in the previous season.

The fact that he was originally a winger, and can play right across the front three would have likely attracted Mauricio Pochettino to the player.

His age may, however, put the club off, but he would certainly be a much better fit than Fernando Llorente as a possible alternative option up front.
