Smashed them but no goals in the last 35min, going by stats spurs WLWLWL etc, now united next seriously we cant lose to them, but then again we can make them look like top4.

  • Niall D says:

Well I for one was waiting for us to click, and it just happened tonite.
It’s amazing how entertaining “workman like” players can be.
I’ll take that result all week.
What is it with you LT, I don’t get it m8, we smashed em 5-0,you know the team who put us out of the FA Cup last season, ol fat Frank as their manager, and you say we had no goals in the last 35 min.
How about we were 5 up and took our foot off the pedal a bit near the end.
I dunno just enjoying a good all round performance and great result.
I know Everton are in a bit of a free fall, but they have good players and are, on their day a decent team.
So for me good result, roll on Saturday, more of the same against “the old timers” at Man U.
    COYS… 😂😉

  • Geofspurs says:

    Wasn’t that a pretty game.

ND …. LT didn’t say that; 123 did.

  • Love totty says:

I didn’t get to see the game as I am traveling at the moment. Will be in Brisbane for the United game at the weekend, Geoff. So, the negativati will say that Everton were crap, while the Blind Faith Brigade will say I told you so. As ever the truth is somewhere in the middle. The commentary I was following certainly had Everton as the better team until the own goal went in. It would be foolish therefore to think all our problems have been solved. Winning at OT would be fantastic but I’d settle for a competitive performance that builds momentum. This is me talking, Niall.

  • Geofspurs says:

LT …. It took about 10 minutes before the game settled. After that it was all Spurs; a master class of how to break at pace. It could well have been 7-0 as we looked like scoring every time we attacked.

Kane is now number two on the THFC scoring chart. If he’s going to overtake Greaves he’ll have to stay for two more seasons.

  • Niall D says:

    Oops Sorry LT.
Either way we played well, scored plenty, a lot of chances.
Our goals lately have been spread through the team.
We have now demolished a couple of teams, who last season were pretty decent.
I know Arse are, above us, but they’re scraping thru their results.
we are winning and winning well, Saturday will tell a tail of where we are and need to be. 😉
May be blind faith talking, but we are measurably, improving, the year ManU had “OG” as their 2nd top scorer, (with 11)my Bro said, “you gotta, put the ball in the interesting area, it could go in”,.
As I said Everton are a bit in free fall currently, but have spent well on players last season, which hasn’t worked out for them this year.
Hopefully this is a springboard, at last, or it could be part of our roller coaster ride.
With that said all of our players, seem to have gotten well over 6 for their performances last night.

  • BelgianSpur says:

The new boys are helping and others are finding a bit of form (Doherty?!).

As I said on the other thread, Shame for Sessegnon, who is so injury-prone. As soon as he starts playing better, he gets injured.

Our games in hand are away to Brighton and home to Arsenal. Arsenal’s games in hand are away to Spurs and Chelsea, and home to Liverpool. It really wouldn’t be surprising to see Arsenal walk away with 2 points or less from those 3 games. The question is can we get at least 4 for our two games in hand?

We have an opportunity, but we rarely seize them when they come our way.

  • jod says:

The key was we scored early. Once we did that the option for Everton to play a defensive game was gone. The wing backs are key in Conte’s system and Doherty and Sessegnon were really good last night, Reguilon wasn’t bad when he came on either.

Given how inconsistent both ourselves and United are and the fact West Ham have European football and a small squad Arsenal must be favourites for that fourth place simply because they turn up every game and perform. I’ve said before that consistency trumps talent in a league competition and its being shown at the moment.

  • Niall D says:

    Hi Jod
I just think Arsenal have been very lucky in their past two games, just about getting past their opponents, with that said in this league anything can happen.
And of course they are to a degree in the drivers seat they already have the points.
But we are in the interesting area, doing better than the last couple of years (points wise) tho’as has been said it’s nothing to boast about, but still an improvement.
We have shown that we can play well with our best 11 on the pitch, so fingers crossed.

  • wentworth says:

Everton were absolute rubbish and we were workman like with a star striker.
We still lack that midfield maestro. Anyone seen Modric goal for Real. Worth a look on YouTube. World’s best midfielder who can’t score apparently.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPM1fBLbJG4

Felt sorry for Dele. He looked totally lost and out of it. What did we do to our star youngster? I really think he’s finished…thanks Moanino.

Why did Conte not give White a chance when we were 5-0 up? He brings on the hopeless, swanky Bergweijn..pathetic.

Where are our academy players? Winks still on the bench. Madness.

Sunday will be a really good test.

  • Geofspurs says:

WW …. Put Dave Mackay and Modric in the milddle of the park and the opposition may as well forget about it. Fantasy football at its finest! lol

  • Niall D says:

    Hi WW
Re Dele, I don’t think we can lay all the blame at JM’s feet, Dele was off the boil even before JM came, it happened after a busy 2018, if we are throwing out blame, let’s blame Poch for over using him, or Southgate for similar then dropping him like a stone.
JM initially got something out of Deleand in fact was one of the few who did for a couple of games.
I think Dele has simply lost the “hunger” the nasty streak, as I said he has the car, the house, the girls, the holidays, the money whether he plays or not and the fame, what is there for him to “strive for” it’s in his own head to be brilliant or average, JM, Frank, Poch can’t do that for him.
Re the academy players, totally agree, there, at 4-0 up he could’ve rested a couple of players and give the youngsters a boost.
My only two thoughts are that perhaps, he Conte wanted his “main squad” to taste the win and boost morale or as, I said before it puts the likes of Bergs in the shop window on a winning team.
But re the academy I agree.

  • Geofspurs says:

Danny, any chance of changing the photo of Conte on the home page. It looks like he has a permanent headache, which of course he probably does, but there must be a more cheerful and optimistic photo of him somewhere. ??

  • PompeyYid says:

Well I loved it, mind first 10 to 15mins thinking oh god! here we go again! then Sess’s cross missed by Harry but still ended up in the net.

Spurs as team changed into overdrive gears and the rest is History.

Doh had a great game, think! no I know! the addition of Kulu is the reason, a great understanding and partnership is forming, we are getting the player we bought from Wolves, so he is trying to make the RWB position his.

Both the newbies what a difference they are both making in their different/relevant playing area’s?

NEXT! yes its MU at the Theatre of Nightmares, well for them anyway, kick on Lads. COYS

  • wentworth says:

    Hi Niall,
Some good points re: Dele. I am so disappointed because I tracked him when he was starring at MK Don’s. ÄŽeĺighted when he signed for us for a pittance and became an international.
He has definitely lost his nasty streak and now lopes around doing very little.

Sunday will define the rest of our season. A win will be an enormous boost. Will our 2 stars and workman like others step up and embarrass Man U?

  • Niall D says:

100%on both points WW, No one sadder than me that Dele couldn’t get his “football” mojo back
I thought on a couple of occasions he was getting back, but no luck.
Agreed also on the Man U match.
Still happy with last night’s result and performance, hopefully it will springboard to the weekend.
But as I think LT said (hope I got it right😉) a good competitive performance at OT with a 1-0er would do.
Danny BTW thanks again for the old thread forgot in all the joy of the result.

  • Allan says:

As I mentioned on the previous thread I couldn’t watch the match but from many comments it appears that Doherty had a good game building on his improvement in recent matches .
Has he turned the corner or were Everton so poor that they afforded him room to work ?

    • BelgianSpur says:

Difficult to say, but playing him in his p^referred system and giving him a run of games probably helps.

  • PompeyYid says:

For me Bentacur was mom! he did something we haven’t seen in a while…run the midfield! ok! I hear you say it was only Everton! but you still have to play what is in front of/around you, plus he is still learning and getting used to the harsh realities that is the Prem lge.

As for Doh I believe we are starting to see the real Doh, which we bought from Wolves, because of the addition of Kulu, they are beginning to look a great partnership. COYS

    • BelgianSpur says:

Both had good games, but I would have given mom to Kulusevski. He has really found his feet in the PL.

  • Allan says:

I’ve just watched clips of Kulusevski vs Everton .
Very impressive with his skill and touch which will help Son with his speed .
3 or 4 similar standard players bought in the Summer and who knows .
Is Dohertey’s form being helped by us having more control in mid field ?
Leeds and Everton were poor . Let’s wait and see if he maintains this forms vs United because if he does Conte has pulled a master stroke .

  • BelgianSpur says:

WW – re Modric, obviously he’s a class player, and that was a great goal. But one goal doesn’t dispel the notion that he can’t score. 3 goals in 31 games this season – hardly an impressive return.

Modric does plenty of other things wonderfully, but taking that one clip as a proof that he is capable of scoring goals is like taking the video of “that goal” David Bentley once scored, and using that as proof that he was a world class player. I’m sure you could probably find a video of Serge Aurier scoring a world class goal too.

re Dele, I agree fully with Niall. It’s think it’s hard to place any blame on anyone other than Dele himself. It’s sad to see someone wasting his talent but it’s his life…

From the get go, I though Everton was a poor choice for him. They’ve been a mess for a few years and it hardly seemed a good place for him to rebuild his career. He would have been better served at a club like Brentford, for example, but Everton were the ones to put a bid in and Spurs just took the money and ran.
