For those Tottenham Hotspur fans who more closely follow our Under 23 side, they will have noticed a strange face on show during the recent pre-season friendly against Ebbsfleet at the weekend as we have offered a trial to former Southend United goalkeeper Ted Smith.
The 23-year-old stopper came through Southend’s youth ranks and at one time was incredibly highly rated. Despite making his debut for them back in February 2015, his real breakthrough year came in 2016/17 as he worked himself into the No 1 spot and made 21 appearances that year. His contract expired over the summer so he is a free agent with 30 senior appearances to his name, and it seems we are now looking at him for the Development Group.

He is a former England Under 20 international but his career has stalled in recent seasons with limited game time, but as potential for the future I can see no harm in bringing him in just to see how it goes.
