Spurs to Re-ignite push for Serie A North African?

|

Many of you will no doubt recall how close Spurs came to signing Fiorentina’s Sofyane Amrabat in the January transfer window last season.

Indeed, the 26-year-old defensive midfielder was willing to make the move, but for some reason or another, Spurs opted against the deal and ended up recruiting the dynamic duo of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski on the final day of that transfer window.

However, La Repubblica (in Italian via Fiorentina news outlet ‘Viola News‘) reported early this week that Spurs are potentially readying a ‘second push’ for the Moroccan midfielder, who is currently impressing in Qatar with his national team.

Indeed, Amrabat has started and impressed in both World Cup matches for Morocco so far – including their notable victory over Belgium last Sunday – and is likely to play in their Group F finale against eliminated Canada tomorrow, where the Atlas Lions have the chance to secure qualification to the last 16 of the tournament.

La Repubblica has observed that this impressive form has not gone unnoticed at Tottenham, who are ready to re-ignite their interest in Amrabat due to Antonio Conte’s belief that the Moroccan anchorman has the potential to serve as a useful squad player.

As is the case with any transfer rumour, there are caveats to bear in mind, one of which is Fiorentina’s desire to offer Amrabat a contract renewal. Even so, with Amrabat’s current deal expiring in 2024, ‘La Viola’ are not under any immediate pressure to sell just yet, but it’s one for them – and potentially interested parties like Spurs – to keep an eye on.
