Spurs To Insist On Contract Extension Prior To Sale – Makes Sense To Me

|

It’s been reported this week that Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente will be sold this summer if a suitable offer can be attracted, but we will still option his contract extension with him to ensure we maximise his potential transfer value.

Football London have claimed that having proved his worth during the absence of Harry Kane earlier in the campaign, that will only help us attract a new club over the summer. However, given we hold a natural 12 month extension on his existing deal, we will option that clause ahead of the summer, in spite of the fact we will be open to offers.

It makes perfect sense to me really in terms of ensuring we maximise his potential future fee and whilst the expectation is the 34-year-old will have a number of options at the end of the campaign as a free agent, I wouldn’t imagine he’ll be overly against it anyway as he’s more than shown he’d be good value (especially in a team better set to suit his strengths) as a million or two.

12 months won’t add anything to his value, but even getting back seven figures suits our purposes and that shouldn’t put anyone off him anyway.
