Spurs to hold contract talks with Antonio Conte

|

The Spurs hierarchy is set to open talks with manager Antonio Conte regarding a contract extension, according to the Telegraph.

It is nearly a year since the Italian took charge of the Lilywhites, and since then he has steered the club away from some pretty dark times under previous manager Nuno Espirito Santo. The club currently sits 3rd in the league and looks likely to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Champions league.

Last November, Conte put pen to paper on an 18-month deal with the club, which made him one of the best-paid managers in Europe – with the Italian earning around £15 million a year.

Conte’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, so the Spurs hierarchy will likely look towards the World Cup break as a chance to start negotiations – and will hope to have the matter sorted before the squad returns back in late December.

This news comes following last month’s rumours regarding Conte being ‘open’ to a return to his former side Juventus, following the Italian giants’ poor start to the season under Max Allegri – rumours that Conte later denied.

To no fans’ surprise, Conte is expected to seek assurances that the club will continue to back him in the transfer market, as they did this summer, spending over £100 million on 7 first-team players.

On the one hand, the team has stopped dropping like a rock in a pond since Conte arrived, but on the other hand we haven’t started playing exciting football since he arrived. Here’s hoping he has the lads playing as emotionally as he plays on the touchline. 15 million a season? You couldn’t buy much of a player for that amount. lol.
