Spurs to battle with Brentford to re-sign Sunderland youngster

|

According to reports, Spurs are interested in bringing Dennis Cirkin back to North London, despite the defender only leaving for Wearside last year.

Any potential move for Cirkin is set to be rivalled by Brentford, who look for a long-term replacement for the injury prone, Rico Henry.

The defender dropped down to League 1 to join Sunderland, at the start of last season and has impressed ever since arriving in Wearside.

Cirkin – featuring at both left back and left centre-back – has made 50 appearances for the Black Cats, helping them achieve promotion to the Championship last season.

Making his return to the side last weekend, following a spell out with injury – Cirkin made an instant impact scoring the winner for his side, as Sunderland were 2-1 victors over Wigan Athletic.

The Dublin-born defender never made a first-team appearance for the Lilywhites, but he was well-thought-of amongst Spurs supporters.

Spurs Fans, would you re-sign Dennis Cirkin?

YES

NO

Spurs will likely have the edge over Brentford in the pursuit of Cirkin’s signature as it is reported that the club have a £6 million buy-back clause inserted into defender’s contract, that runs to 2024.

However, minutes may not be guaranteed for the youngster at Tottenham, as the club are currently stacked for options in both left back and left centre-back.

So, it may be a case of Spurs trying to turn a quick profit on the defender and selling him on to other potential suitors.

Why was he sold when he had so much potential? We are a club that is very poor at giving our youngsters a decent chance…. e.g. Harvey White, Alfie Devine, Papa Sarr, Djed Spence. Give them 20+ minutes not 2 minutes in added time!!!

almost didn’t open this thread. Too damned many to read them all and to comment on them. Good to see you, ww. But if we give 20 minutes to White, Devine, Sarr and Spence, who’s to sit? That’s a full 80 minutes to these 4, so I guess Kane could get in for the last 10 minutes. Anyway, I’m not sure where things are going at all.
