Spurs tipped to move for promising England U21 defender

Norwich City right-back Max Aarons has been on almost every single big club’s shortlist for a long time now, and this summer could be the transfer window where he finally makes a move from Norfolk.

After a deal to take Aarons to Bayern Munich fell through last year, plenty of teams are still in the running, including Spurs who have been long term admirers of the defender for a long time.

The likes of Kevin Phillips and Gabriel Agbonlahor have tipped the England U21 international to make the move to North London and replace one of Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty in the squad, due to both having been very underwhelming this season.

Phillips told Football Insider: “Any of the clubs who go for him [Max Aarons] and secure his services will know they’ve got a good young player who will perform for years.

“He would be a good signing [for Spurs]. It depends on who comes in as manager and whether they want him.

“They’ll get longer out of someone like Aarons and Doherty hasn’t been in the team for a while. He’s living on borrowed time.

“It could be the end [for Doherty] if Aarons comes in but again, it depends on who the manager is.”

Agbonlahor believes that Aarons is the perfect right-back and at £30 million, would be a steal for Spurs.

“For me, Max Aarons is the perfect right-back,” said the former Aston Villa striker. “Up and down, he can defend, he’s quick.

“I’m sure that’s one Spurs will be hoping to get over the line.”

In the meantime, Aarons has been named in the Championship Team of the Year for a second time in his career already, despite being just 21-years-old and having already spent a full year in the Premier League too.

The talented defender scored two goals and set-up two more this season in the Championship, but that d0esn’t tell the full story as he created plenty of chances too and was superb in his defensive duties.

The former Luton Town right-back would also be keen to play alongside Oliver Skipp again, after the Spurs midfielder impressed greatly during his time on-loan at Carrow Road this season.

At £30 million, Aarons is a must-buy for Spurs and would be the perfect replacement for Kyle Walker that we have been missing since his departure for Manchester City.
