With a good win over West Ham United in the midweek EFL Cup clash, Tottenham Hotspur now prepare to travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers for our latest Premier League clash.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have impressed many with their style of football, and they sit in tenth place in the Premier League table having attained promotion as Championship title winners last season. Aided by agent Jorge Mendes their signings have been impressive, but there biggest flaw appears to be goalscoring so it’s the kind of clash where maybe manager Mauricio Pochettino might be inclined to tinker with defence again to boost the game time of some in the squad.

Given the midweek changes though, I think we can expect Poch to revert back to the more tried and tested league squad he normally leads with.

Given the performances of some on Wednesday evening, he might have been asked a question or two about places on the bench though…we’ll have to see.

I actually find this one difficult to call, as they are no slouches, so it could be an interesting one but we shouldn’t underestimate them and I’m sure we won’t.

  • Now keep calm…but….we actually scored from a corner last night! Wow! Foyth actually had a good game …tick in the box….KWP wasn’t too shabby…. lost his man a couple of times and got skinned but he’s work in progress! Eriksen looked like his former self and Delle was causing problems all night but how about Son right place right time and Llorente’s link up play was topped off by albeit soft goal still a morale booster…best bit about the game was that it gave 10 players nearly a weeks layoff. As for Wolves….well! Our record against newly promoted sides is terrifyingly good and, as much as they may huff an puff, Wolves ain’t going to blow our house down on Saturday! See Danny! you didn’t think of that one did you ?

  • Wolves playing out of their skins, but I feel they are slowly getting found out, for me a measly 2 nil win for us. COYS

  • DW,,,,forgot to add in my last post, well done, match threads coming thick and fast as our games are. COYS

  • Great stuff last night and many thanks Danny for your considerable efforts.

Whatever happens can’t help loving spurs and naturally Poch. His “genius” interview on bbc sport cracked me up. Love the man. Now we have a full squad ( bar Jan) we should finally click. Can’t wait!!!

  • Yes thanks for the match articles Danny winter and geof and Belgian and others. I don’t always comment on them but I always read them and all the comments. I haven’t seen wolves play last season or this season at all, so it will be interesting to check them out. I am hoping we will make them look poor. Harry Kane desperately needs a rest to recover sharpness. He is doing some good stuff but mentally tired, half a yard off. I think Trippier is a little off form and would rest him. Winks has to start. I imagine this would be unpopular but if I was the gaffer I would play Gazzaniga, Aurier Sanchez Toby Rose/ Winks and anyone but dier/ Dele Eriksen Lamela/ Son in a vague 4 2 3 1. I think Poch will pick differently. It’s a tough call but now is a good time for Kane to get a break with all our main attackers fit and available. Trippier just hasn’t had great delivery recently from what Iv seen and has looked a little off pace mentally at times ( the city goal being the prime incident). He made two stupid dier style errors, that’s just mental fatigue.

  • Well done DW another match day article.

It will be a spurs win, as we have our players back and this game will give them more match fitness, and confidence. Wolves will do their best but will fall short. Poch should inc. Foyth in back 3 or on the bench, this lad is a class player. COYS

  • My Spurs-tinted glasses tell me things are starting to look quite positive…

We are starting to perform better, key players are coming back from injury, Dele has signed a new contract, Foyth, Winks and KWP are looking up to it and ready for first team game time.

I haven’t seen too much of Wolves this season, but from what I gather, they don’t just sit back and defend à la “Pulis”, so they will try and attack, and hopefully leave gaps at the back to exploit.

This game comes at a perfect time to further bulid confidence, so I’m going for 0-4:

    KWP, Alderweireld, Foyth, Davies
    Winks, Dembélé
    Lamela, Dele, Son

Son, Lamela, Kane & Dele with the goals
Eriksen, Moura, Llorente with late cameos

  • Good shout there Parklaneyido, 0-4 seems a good possibility.

Although I would have to ask where is “Ledley King Mk2” Sanchez, he is young, fit and hungry. COYS

  • Pompey, I was very tempted to put Sanchez in, but with him being the only one to have played 2 games in 3 days and the full 180 minutes, I think he deserves the break for this one and Foyth deserves the chance.

I’d still have Sanchez on the bench in case we need to change to 3 at the back or bring one of the other 2 off. Also hard not to pick Moura as a sub, but I personally don’t see Llorente as a waste of space and think he could do with a little game time (though I’d never start him if Kane is fit).

  • I must be going mad, as I did pick Moura as a sub, but I think the squad’s getting more competitive overall, which has to be a good thing.

  • No Dier -No Wanyama – Verts and Rose still out surely Sanchez can’t play a 3rd game in 6 days especially with PSV on Tuesday so were a bit thread bear at the back have to be Winks and Dembele in the middle of the park Foyth with Toby …….that’s going going to even things up a bit for Wolves! All these injuries and so many games coming up having no new replacements in from the summer is going to start to show …given that PSV is a must, must win game (Jod) I wouldn’t be surprised if Poch didn’t put out the same team as the West Ham game with the exception of Sanchez and Wanyama!

  • Yes thanks also to Geof and Belgian for your efforts too – all are read and appreciated.
    Is Winks fit?
I’d heard he went off injured on Wednesday but seen nothing since. I sincerely hope he is as genuinely believe he is the man to knit us together. Will be a hell of a player if he stays fit – and a Spurs lad through and through, makes him even better!

  • Cheers DW, and I mostly agree with you that it’ll be a tough one, although I think we’ll have enough to see Wolves off and take the 3 points.

Fantastic result, and performance, vs West Ham, especially after 10 changes. Poch will have good options for Saturday.

    Tripper Sanchez Toby Davies
    Winks Dembele
    Alli Eriksen Son

I think Poch will go for his “tried and trusted” XI as the league should still be the priority. Hopefully we can make a few changes to prepare for PSV. The lads need to come out sharp and do the basics well.

    0-3 Son, Kane, Dele

@Ade, do hope Winks is available and agree he can dictate tempo with his sewing skills. Could be top drawer. One Of Our Own. COYS

  • Fingers crossed Mello, I won’t give you any needle for that ( sorry ) !

Seems he may we’ll be fit as very quiet elsewhere regarding any injury update. Seems it’s Rose, Dier, Wanyama and Jan out, and the rest good to go.

Whoever Poch picks, I’m confident will be enough. Looking forward to it either way.

  • I’ve already started celebrating a 0-3 win! For the record …. Kane (2), Sissoko (1) and Son (3). I was always crap at maths!

  • Pitch markings just going down at the stadium, looking good now the cladding on the west side is going up at pace.

  • Manu get lucky again with a winner in injury time, didn’t deserve any more than a draw. I was very impressed by the young lad Brooks that we were supposedly interested in who went to Bournemouth.
