Spurs submit verbal offer for Leverkusen defender

|

After securing the signings of Arnaut Danjuma and Pedro Porro, it now seems Spurs are turning their attention to defence. That is according to the German publication BILD who have stated that Tottenham have submitted a verbal offer of £21.9 million for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

Despite that offer being far short of Leverkusen’s reported £80 million valuation, the Sun claim a deal could be struck this January for around £20 million with Hincapie spending the rest of the season back on loan at the German side.

The 21-year-old has been on the club’s shortlist for some while now, catching Tottenham’s eye ever since moving to Germany back in 2021. Since making his debut for Leverkusen, the defender has gone from strength to strength becoming one of the first names on the team sheet in recent times – making 20 appearances for Xabi Alonso’s side this season (via Transfermarkt).

Hincapie, who recently featured for Ecuador at the World Cup, has featured at both left-back and centre-half this season suggesting he may slot nicely into the left-hand side of Antonio Conte’s back three.

Comfortable on the ball as well as being slightly rash in defensive terms, Hincapie profiles quite similar to current Spurs stalwart Cristian Romero.

Similar to Romero, the 21-year-old is no stranger to a feisty encounter having already been sent off twice this season, meaning Conte will likely have to calm the Ecuadorian down if Spurs were to secure his signature.
